I got my Grog and Dark shaving soaps from Canadian Blade Co. today. I'll be trying Dark first. They both smell really good, very deep and interesting. Dark is dark indeed. Neither of these soaps smell like any other soap I've smelled before. I like them a lot. I'll follow up tomorrow after first use.

OK, I had a chance to use Dark this morning so hrfdez kwsher and Freddy here are my thoughts. I don't do reviews because I'm generally unworthyBig Grin Great scent off the tub, very coffee forward and the scent continued like that off the lather too. I'm going to give Dark another shave or two to see what I really think of the scent because in my experience things change. B&M Leviathan which is one of my favourite scents and definitely in the top tier of dark scents out there I did not like on first use. For some reason I got a heavy dose of wet dog off it but when I used it the second time it opened up in all its lovely darkness and I was hooked. i don't know if my brain woke up some sensory neurons or what but I can't even find wet dog on it anymore. That being said, i'll withhold judgement of Dark's scent until I've used it a few times - right now I'll say "nice". I used my DFS LE EnvyShave brush and this soap produced copious amounts of thick rich lather. Very nice performance. I used a Wolfman WR-1 with a Gillette platinum blade and I have to say I have yet to make friends with the Wolfman - maybe thats the point, who can be friends with a werewolf? Even Frankenstein, the Mummy and Dracula had difficulty with him. My point is its a very aggressive razor requiring intense focus and a light touch. Notwithstanding that I was able to do a really nice BBS 4 pass shave with lather to spare - finished it off with a nice dose of Chatillon Lux Colbeck and I feel great.

Good job Ryan, I'm looking forward to trying Grog as well. I think these soaps are certainly knocking on the door of the B&M, Mystic Waters and Mike's Natural and it will be great to have them in my rotation.

Great Marko - I am really impressed with the quality of Ryan @ Tallow + Steel soaps.

I have been buried in the move on this end along with work "stuff" but Grog has been my go to soap the entire week.

Great scent and agree- the performance is as good or better than any alternative out there.

Don't have Dark... (yet) and appreciate the thoughts. I will post full impressions of both Grog and Rainforest once the dust settles a bit on this end.

Marko,

Thanks for your honest review! I'm glad to hear you loved the performance, and I hope Dark will grow on you. It is definitely a unique scent and I do think it will be one that grows on people the more they use it.

Kevin,

Thanks for your kind words as well. Awesome that you've been using Grog the whole week. I hope Rainforest treats you as well as Grog.

Cheers.

Ryan, I received the package with the 4 aftershave set today - great service and delivery speed, Thanks! I applied the Dark aftershave this afternoon after walking the dog. Very nice face feel, a lot like Kyovu in that its a" a balmy" splash. Really like it. Also with the aftershave you get to see how the scent develops over time in contact with my skin.

That was quick!

I've never used Kyovu, but I know many people love it, so thanks for the comparison. Creating a completely alcohol free splash with a high content of essential oils is really difficult, and it took a lot of work to make something we loved.

Be sure to let me know what you think of the other scents.

Cheers!

Hi Ryan.  I just purchased through a B/S/T here (sorry, it was easier than doing a cross Canada/U.S.A. border purchase Cry) a new tub of T+S Classic Shaving Soap and matching aftershave.  After reading the comments here I have been wanting to try your products and this was the perfect opportunity.  Marko comparison of the aftershave to B&M's Kyovu was just icing on the cake.  I am having the delivery delayed for travel reasons but will certainly post my thoughts once I give them a go.

I always wondered how I would feel the first time a Tallow + Steel product ended up on the B/S/T Sad haha

I'm happy you will get to try them. It was probably a smart move since Canada's postal service may strike next week.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

Ryan
