Ryan--I am a morning shaver and get up very early for work. I like bright, invigorating scents. They help me wake up and start my day. I have been enjoying West Indies. What other scents in your new line are bright, morning scents. Thanks!

Hi Mark,

I have to be honest with you and say that for bright scents; this one is it for now.

One could claim Maya would be good for the morning with the coffee, and there is some citrus, however it's not bright.

Glad to hear you are enjoying WI.

Cheers

I have done two test lathers with different brushes and shaved with the Morocco last night and West Indies this morning. It's pretty safe to say it's the finest soap on the market at the moment. The scents alone are outstanding.

David (dfoulk) is another voice I trust when it comes to soaps and he is spot on when he described the new T&S as slicker than L&L and more moisturizing than Sudsy Soapery which are two of the best soaps made today. There are just no weaknesses in performance.

The only gripe some might have is it's a softer soap compared to the previous version thus more costly. One will go through this jar quicker.

Slickness and its moisturizing properties are unmatched in the soap making world right now.

Look, last week it was GroomingDept for me, and there are new products in the pipeline there but for now show me a better made shaving soap than Tallow & Steel. These guys did their homework.

Calling soap makers 'artisans' gets pretty silly imo. They make soap. I'm not into the fanboyism seen on some forums.

Clearly these guys had a soap formula they wanted to redo into the finest available today.

They did it.

Aside from 150, Morroco is what got me intrigued the most. Okay Himalaya and then Maya and then West Indies. Lol.

Thanks for your thoughts VT.

I just got me a shaving woody... Tallow + Steel mailcall! The 150 is still enroute.

The packaging is insane! So nice, and better than the pictures do them justice. Definitely among the best out there. The scents are also all very unique; unlike anything out there and very much in T+S style. I have to say, huffing the tubs... I love 'em all. Gonna be a busy week w/reviews!

Here is my first report, Tallow + Steel 2017 - First Impressions!

Look for a SOTD/review of each scent in the following days (starting later today).

Excellent review, I am also looking forward to your review of Boreal. Specifically if it's more "sawmill" or "walk through the woods". Keep up the great work!

Thanks so much! It's more of a "walk through the woods" than a more base, woodsy affair. But there's a LOT going on. The fir definitely plays a part, along with the citrusy monarda. But it's wood, more wood and a smidge more wood, of all sorts. Interestingly, I get a bit of a wintergreen vibe, although it doesn't contain any.

Thanks for your reviews! Awesome that you picked up the wintergreen scent - It's the birch, which is really high in methyl salicylate (wintergreen). We added it in so the scent wasn't too dark and woodsy.. it adds a nice freshness.

You're VERY welcome, and thank YOU for your products! Smile

Yeah, at first I was doubting that I picked it up, but there was no escaping it. It danced with the mornada beautifully, definitely lightening up the overall woodsy/pine vibe. So incredibly deep and rich. Love it!

Here's my review of Boreal!
