Suggested, reasonably priced Single Edged Razor

Will be shopping for the above and would like some advice on my purchase. I realize that "reasonably priced" is a subjective phrase, so lets qualify that by saying up to $100.00. I have absolutely no knowledge as to brands or quality, so I really don't even know if there are offerings that would be in that range. Any opinions will be appreciated. Thanks,

I have a colonial General aluminum which may fit your requirements and budget. Do some research on it and ping me incase you have made your mind on it please.

I also have an ATT S1 in Stainless steel in the ballpark range.

What form factor and new or vintage? AC, injector, GEM? There's quite a lot available at a very wide price range. Some vintage options can be had for around $20 to try out. As far as stainless steel... A little harder to come by within your budget unless you're looking at a Razorock Hawk (aluminum or stainless steel) or a used Classic Shaving Enoch. Yeah, a wide range of options depending on blade format. I bought a 1950's era, super clean, Schick type I-2 HydroMagic injector for ~$50 total acquisition cost (inlc. tax & shipping); likewise I have a polished Blackland Vector (Artist Club blade format) that I bought direct for $240. Sounds liek you're just buying to try? No real direction here?

Buy the ss colonial General V2 head for $115. The extra cash is worth it.

jhinson1 and JoeLr are right in that the more you can tell us, the better we can help you.  But since you may be at too early a stage in your search to provide meaningful specifics, here are a few suggestions you may want to investigate more closely.

• The RazoRock Hawk, as mentioned above.  If you like light razors, consider an aluminum V2.  Personally, I would suggest a V3.  The V3s are SS and come in milder and more aggressive versions.  
  
• The GEM Micromatic Open Comb (aka MMOC), GEM ClogPruf, and GEM Featherweight are three of my favorite razors.  The MMOC is widely hailed as an excellent aggressive shaver.  The ClogPruf and Featherweight are considered by most to be more forgiving.  IME they both deliver excellent shaves - mild but very efficient.  As the name suggests, the Featherweight is much lighter.  It also has a different form factor - the handle is ribbed and rectangular.  On a difficult day, this razor is super easy for my elderly hands to hold, and perhaps that may matter to you too.  In any case, you will have no trouble finding a lot of love for many other affordable vintage GEM razors.
  

Those are a handful of popular SE razors you might check out in greater depth, but good luck whichever way you go.  One thing you won't hear much about is people saying they regret getting started with single edge razors.

Razorock Hawk v3 is the best I've used at this time. And it costs the least.

Just received my Hawk V3 OC (Kai guarded blade) the other day, 2 headshaves in and I really do like this razor. Used a Leaf prior, never used a SE before now. No nicks, cuts or weepers, very little feedback from the alum block.

WOW!! Guess you don't know what you don't know. Here is what I will be using it for: Trim neck below full beard. Completely shave head, possibly every other to every three days. Have kind of sensitive skin. Single edged razor preferred, but not absolute. Vintage would be preferred due to my fondness of history, but how do you insure that the razor is safe, and in working order. Can you still get quality blades for an example for the GEM or other vintage brands? I appreciate your patience with my ignorance concerning this. I hope this kind of gives a direction, but as I said above, I don't know, what I don't know. Thanks for the responses so far.

Both Gem and injector blades for vintage razors are readily available.

I get great head shaves from both types, my favorites in each category would be Micromatic Open Comb and PAL Injecto-Matic. Both are fairly aggressive I am told though neither was difficult for me starting out.

Acmore cautious approach.. For $30 tops you should be able to score a Gem Micromatic Bullet Tip the mildest version, and see if you like the feel of the format.
