Reading these glowing reviews is hard on a newbie. Now here is another product I have to try.

Oh, and these labels are the worst! Not waterproof, not alcohol proof, not even "own-product" proof. At least spray some Scotchgard on the labels before shipping eh?

Why can't you just merely place the lid away from water while you shave, or do you shave under a waterfall? Rolleyes Wink

Secretary Ramsey put his foot into it yesterday . . . in the course of his remarks he said that California “needs water and better society.”  “So does h-ll,” yelled someone in the crowd.

ROFL. No, my labels were damaged in shipping when some of the balm leaked and smeared all the labels. Shame really when it's so easily prevented.
These are not my first SS soaps. Another one of my labels started flaking off when I put the lid back on with a wet thumb. They are so fragile it's comical.

I'm not sure what happened to my reply to this last week.  Looks like someone deleted my post or my browser coughed up a hairball.
I couldn't disagree with you more about the SS balm.  It's by far the greasiest balm I've ever used.  I can only imagine ever using this balm in sub-zero temps when I have to work outside in the winter, so I'm confused why SS would release a decidedly Summer-like scent with a heavy balm such as this with no alcohol-based splash.  Missed opportunity if you ask me.  I would have jumped on the matching splash if they had it.  The SS Lavender/Mint splash I have is excellent.

Like soaps....AS and ASB are all YMMV. Results depend on your expectations, preferences, skin type...etc. Which is precisely why there are so many of each on the market...

Back when I lived up north in snow country balms were great for Winter. Where I am now I never use them. I think geography & weather are more at play here. Wink

I live in the NE. My particular skin likes balms all year round. In the cold and dry winter and in the hot and humid summer. YMMV...

I hear you. The balm IS a bit heavy, and it's not a great match for the 'summery' citrus scent. But I only use a very little, and find it very soothing. It seems to absorb into my skin in about 5 minutes while I'm cleaning up after shaving. It's been between 105 and 110 here in the desert for the last few weeks, and I haven't found it to be an issue.
All the best,

So you guys think that the tallow version is a significant improvement from the vegan one?

Yes. Is it leaps & bounds better? No. The reason why is that their non-tallow is so spectacular that ANY improvement is going to be incremental. Is the tallow version worth it? Yes.

Got it, thanks!
I have yet to try SS but I've heard nothing but very very good things about them.
