I've logged 3 shaves with the new Karve Overlander. This is a very good razor and I can see why people are so excited about it. My opinion is completely in-line with the masses. Its ultra smooth, forgiving, easy to use/find the cutting angle and well balanced in the hand. I was getting Rockwell 6S vibes from it even though the Overlander is a much more refined/sleek razor. There is some drag from the finish, but I don't mind that. I could always spend 5 minutes polishing it with MAAS or Brasso and I'm sure that would improve the glide. The blade clapping is rock solid and as a result the against the grain pass is extremely comfortable. I gravitate towards aggressive razors with blade feel... this is clearly nothing like that! However, its a welcome change for me and the Overlander will be in permanent rotation.

I was telling the other Paul that prior to the Overlander, I was finding myself moving away from DEs and going mainly for single edge razors. But the Overlander is pulling me back into the fold! So Evil could just as well be tearing up over the prodigal returning, lol

Tatara Nodachi | Brad Sears | MWF | Furbo Blu | Astra SP

My friend Eric inspired me to use the MWF. Love the scent, always struggled to get a good lather with it. This time I tried something new by blooming it 3 or 4 times over the course of 24 hours (and over night) prior to use. The well hydrated puck lathered almost instantly. It also produced a better quality lather with more cushion and less air bubbles. Not perfect, but I'll accept it for what it is.

I am going to "borrow" your tip, and bloom my puck Monday or Tuesday. I did have a lot of little air bubbles. How's the Nodachi? It hit my radar as being mild and efficient, I think.

Yeah, try blooming your puck 3 or 4 times and also just prior to the shave. I'm curious to see what you think! In the past, I would bloom the puck for like 5 or 10 minutes just prior to the shave... but today's MWF experience was much better. I could visually tell the puck puffed up a bit, was softer and hydrated. It lathered very fast even with my soft badger knot.

The "Nodachi" is Tatara's aggressive model... and it is quite agressive with a decent amount of blade feel. The "Masamune" is their mild razor.

Interesting fact; You can swap both the base plates a top caps on each model to get something mid-aggressive.

Thanks for the info! I confused the two. I am very happy with the Overlander and my single edge razors, so I don't know why my eye keeps looking!

I took your advice and added water to the puck, maybe an eighth inch deep. And the next morning it was gone! So I added a little more and this time a bit was left. Ip I poured it off and loaded a damp boar knot. Wow! Copious lather and of a nice quality. I am supposed to be using up the Noble Otter soap, but now I just want to use Mitchell's! Shimming the Overlander was worth trying, but I doubt I’ll ever do it again. It opens the gap up considerably and obviously made it more aggressive, but it kinda lost its smooth nature and gave me some irritation.
