Repeat the breaking in process.
Soak more time in warm water before lathering.
Use enough soap ... few grams each time with big boys.
Add enough water, specially with thirsty artisanal / rich soaps.

Splaying typical of new shavers or those never developing good technique. Properly, the tips should be only thing touching the mixing bowl or face. While Simpsons recommends against circular lathering, irrespective of whether employing painting or circular lathering, strive to only use the brush tips. You will find a light technique employed over 5 minutes of face lathering results in an ideal beard preparation. If so inclined, PM and we can do a WhatsApp video call bowl lathering using a variety of soaps and brushes from silvertip travel to CH2 Chubby Manchurians and all manner of DG, Mozingo and Varlet huge knots in between. They all lather well. Finally, suspect EU has a different water composition vs US; you may want to try bowl lathering using distilled (not filtered) water to remove that variable.

I believe most do splay the brush. I think your post landed on a pool of us who do not.

More a Wile E Coyote splat than a splash, eh? Haha

I used to be a face latherer myself. I have 80% of those brushes. With denser knots you need to load decently heavy and add a lot of water as you go. I stopped this, now I mix my lather in a bowl. Sometimes I felt as if my lather was nearly gone by second pass or it just wasn’t right. Putting it in the bowl and mixing it there eliminates this issue because now you can physically see if there is enough for all 3 passes. It actually helped further than that as well as I noticed the tips felt even better than face lathering when applying the soap to my face. Another aspect is hard water. A lot of soaps can either be drying or don’t lather up as good with hard water.
