SOTD - To much info? Bragging?

It's possible some of these peeps that does this are reimbursed with free stuff by the manufacturer

I also enjoy seeing what others have used and I, originally, illustrated mine in the settings that I do as I had become bored taking them in my house.
Now, it is done for purely artistic reasons and to see if I can become a better photographer as I love the challenge of capturing lighting, colours and moods. I presume this might be regarded as selfish reasons, but I just see it as a form of expression to share what I consider beauty with others and nothing more.

Please continue to post your photos since I truly enjoy looking at your daily SOTD photos.  Many of the better SOTD photos sparked my interest in photography.  I do try to improve on my skills of taking and editing the photos.  I also look at the items people use for the SOTD which gives me insight into items I might like to try.

In comparison, food shots are of food on your plate, no real staging and just a quick shot before eating.  Those I do and don't mind if people think I'm weird in that way.  Now I take pics of slingshots, so I have quirks too.

Food photography is easily staged. A bit of correct backlighting, fake steam or water on the food, food arranged on the plate with different colors ...

I know some people do it to "share" (which IMO can be too much info) but food photography is a serious business and there can be different ways to demonstrate the product.

For sure.  It's a huge business and people do it professionally and do it well.

I was more alluding to my hacker pics.  I can't compete with the photogrpahy level of guys here or in magazines, so I don't even try.  When I BBQ, I snap a pic on the grill, off the grill and maybe plated if I have time.

I don't look at them and avoid the threads.  I've done it in the past and will do it once in a rare while, but usually just on my bathroom sink.  At most, I pull the items onto my deck and take them in natural light.

I'm not about to photoshop theme historic backgrounds into them, drag them to my garden, balance them on each other on a string over a rushing river and take a pic.  I find many of them a bit odd to say the least.  Many of the SOTD, just show a razor and brush in some out of place setting, which make no sense to me as that was not your SOTD, it's just your picture worthy gear to show off.

People can post them all they want, SOTD threads are easy to ignore as there is no other content in there so nothing I want to read or contribute to.

Actually, Bruce, I think you give great reasons for why a site like DFS sparks us in so many different ways, certainly through photography.  My SOTD photographs are pedestrian on a good day but perhaps someone might notice a product I use or a comment I make about the photo that may be of interest to them.  As you stated, your photography tends to be more in the food or hobby department here (and, yes, I think your food and slingshot photos are great... especially the food  ).  When any of our members highlight their SOTD or other hobbies with photos, no matter how professional those photos may or may not be, I believe that adds to the interest of the site.  Yes, we are a shaving site but learning about other hobbies that our members have, especially with photos, rounds out the site in my opinion.  Sometimes there is nothing wrong with a touch of pride because you enjoy an endeavour as our SOTD, food, fountain pen, travel, and, yes, slingshot pictures prove.

It's also possible that some are actually PAID, cash money, for their SOTD pics. This is called "marketing", and actually occupies a fairly large portion of budgetary allotments for many business models.

Seems to me it would be cheaper to offer someone a tub of soap, or a bottle of splash in exchange for some well-done SOTD photos than to pay for a professional to set up a studio, and do the exact same thing...

I like SOTD photos. As wilderness photographer, I am always intrigued and fascinated by some of the creativity I see in what, to me, is a fairly bland subject...daily shaving gear. Some of you guys are ridiculously creative and talented.

Myself...I shoot a standard composition every once in a while. Not as a way to brag, or "show off", because frankly, all of my gear is very inexpensive, and not really "brag worthy", but moreso as a means to continue to participate in the forum. "Like" a few photos, share one occasionally, and reading through the once-in-a-while topics that catch my interest are all that's left. Without the photos...not much for me to take part in...

As a wild life photographer, then you know "you get what you get". The flora isn't going to pose for you. OTH, some soap, razor and a bottle ARE posing for you.

And that is why I agree with you.

Kudos to anyone doing this daily with props, a theme, using photography as an art. You have WAY more patience than me.

Its not simple. It takes time. It takes creativity. It takes a vision. And that's work. Good for them.
