I am certain for some people these pics are a way to show off gear as has been stated by a couple people.  But I those are a very insignificant minority of users.  People get to be expressive, get to do something that gives them a bit of pleasure with their hobby.  I don't understand why people who don't like SOTD pics go to those threads.  It's the same with the monthly haul thread.  If you don't want to see them, why go into them?

I have been on forums where gents admitted to buying a 200 dollar razor just to have a shave of the day photo that wouldn't get laughed at. Same with soaps or brushes.  Its ok to say you use a 30 year old vintage badger you found, but if it isn't a name brand like rooney or simpsons you better not show it. And same with razors. some forums don't make fun of the modern zamac groups of razors, or of old techs and the like. But don't put them into a SOTD photo.

And as far as viewing these annoying photos and bragging shots.  Its easy. some forums have such limited amount of shaving generated shaving content, that if it wasn't for the SOTD shots, discussion of razors, soaps, shaving, would actually be outnumbered by threads concerning what did you eat yesterday, and what will you eat or drink tonight. Or ink pens.

On theshavingroom.co.uk  if it wasn't for the daily shave pictures, and resulting comments. The discussion of shaving equipment would simply consist of people asking for opinion on the one blade and the crop of kick starter SE razors. And the forum for ink pens and photo taking would be the whole purpose of that site.

And for me it reflects the state of shaving sites.  Some are more educational based then others, and have managed to keep a more curious type of member. Compared to others that have members who reached the point of deciding exactly what they use, 20 years ago.
Now I see why you have the badge of honor under your nick " Forum troll".... You only post for the sake of posting... What makes you think that people don't post their worn out old vintage razors or cheap zinc razors in SOTD just because they are ashamed of their gear?

We just dont post in SOTD because many of us are plain lazy to be taking pictures every day of the gear that we shave with and go trough the trouble posting in the SOTD thread, yes lazy even if we got no better thing to do. That's why we praise all the people that effortlessly post in SOTD thread. I will even go as far as praising Churchilafeme with his every day ASD2 Feather pictures haha, he just never stops but you got to give him the props for being so disciplined about it.

I don't post in SOTD because of laziness and not because I'm ashamed of my gear, but just to show you that you are not the only one that can wear the "Forum Troll" sticker with pride, I will troll you back with this picture.  You can freely post in SOTD even if you shave with a steak knife, no one cares....

Minuteshaver, I have asked you this before, why are you even here? You are negative about almost everything. This is a wet shaving site. It's reason for being is the very thing you don't seem to like. There are forums on just about any subject you can think of so why not look for one where you might have more in common with its members? You'd probably be a lot happier there.

I could not agree more Freddy . Minuteshaver seems to have learned nothing from his one week vacation from the board.

what vacation... ive been playing in the Ebay happy zone of shaving equipment.

This whole thread is filled with insults. Simply based on that I don't like the fact a lot of people use their daily shave to brag about their hard to get razors, soaps, and brushes.

Would a shave of the day photo be appropriate in a thread like this?

I enjoy posting my SOTD photos. It's one way to "break the ice" on a forum. Sure, there are probably shavers who like to show off their gear...so what? Just because I don't own a Wolfman, doesn't mean I don't enjoying looking at them. Some of our photographers are very talented. There are sub-fora that I ignore, fountain pens being one of them. My suggestion to those who don't care for the SOTD thread...move on and, as they say in German: Halt's Maul.

You're right. This thread is filled with insults and disdain and arrogance and a thinly veiled superiority complex.

Unfortunately, these things are all coming from you and are directed at the rest of us...

Creating an environment where you intentionally isolate yourself from the members of an internet community while effectively hurling insults at the members of said community is not the best means to effect positive change in the world of wet shaving.

Instead of whining about people showing off unobtainable gear, share pictures of modest gear.

Instead of whining about video gods Grooming in front of a mirror, make videos and put yourself out there as someone trying to record their learning process and looking for advice.

Instead of complaining about every aspect of this hobby, try enjoying the aspects you like and ignoring the rest.

Be the change you want to see.

Or stop crying about it. Either way works. Be respectable or be gone. You can't act like a disrespectful little punk and then demand we all respect you and your opinions. Life don't work that way, and if you're still young enough to believe you are entitled to something here, it's best you learn this early: you aren't special and nobody owes you anything.
