Good question? Bragging? “Why are people showing me what they are shaving with on  DAILY BASIS?"

"... but it’s an easier way to participate in say, a Facebook or Message Board group like Damn Fine Shave." nice plug Smile

What do you think? Bragging? To much info?

My opinion. Like the author when I first saw them I thought  Huh  Way too much info, like people who take pix of food when eating out, but as one who takes pix, I agree with the author I really think it’s more of an art. I can easily do it but I'd have to drag out all the stuff into one shot. Plain studio shots would be boring. I think the more interesting ones do have a theme, with a soft background, maybe water, a theme to go along with the products. There are interesting ones done very artistically. Then I'd worry about the tiny details. Shots like these are trivial to do ...

Kudos to anyone doing this daily with props, a theme, using photography as an art. You have WAY more patience than me.  But I "get it".

I don't care either way, personally. I shave every 2-3 days but don't care to take any photos of my set up mostly because I just can't be bothered with it. if someone enjoys doing it, then I say go for it! we have some folks on the site that take stunning SOTD photos.

Ugly gear needs love too.

All the artsy shots are fun to look at but they set unrealistic expectations for the youngins...

I enjoy seeing the SOTD pics. Especially the ones that have a roundup of what's going on in the shot.

I don't have the time or the desire really to take many photos. I would obsess over the thing and spend more time getting a picture than I do actually shaving.

Studio shots are trivial to do. Artsy shots are very difficult to do as they require vision. "Youngins" only need an iPhone and some vision. And that vision is the really hard part. Any good photographer will tell you that the equipment and technical part is easy. The artistic side is difficult and anyone, young or old, can be artistic.

I was joking about fat shaming and materialistic ideals in media. Like how magazines and other idealized versions of reality send messages to kids to have the wrong goals and expectations in life.

Ideals are fine. I think it absolutely could be a hopeless endeavor to attain the perfect shot. Probably just as addictive and interesting as collecting razors and searching for the ideal brush etc.

I do like SOTD pics.

Some are more realistic than others.

I love the down to earth realistic ones with inexpensive gear just as much as I enjoy seeing the unobtamium stuff that doesn't even look like it's seen water before let alone soap and whiskers.

I never considered it bragging. The blog has a point. Sometimes it's nice to see instead of read.

I like them in general too, although I do think at times they're overboard with information (such as how many times a particular blade has been used so far), but it's always cool to see what people are using. Artsy ones and non-artsy ones are equally interesting to me. In fact, sometimes, I wonder how people have so much time on their hands that they can take such involved photos of their daily shaves. I always enjoy them, no matter if they're artistic or pedestrian, using high end gear or basic. In the busy days many have, in addition to having a shave, that person also took the time and effort to take a picture and share it with us.

Plus, it's always interesting to see other shavers' razors, brushes, shaving bowls, and so forth. It can spark ideas, remind you of a razor or brush you have but haven't used in a while, and so forth.

Some of the members here take incredible shots, with incredible backgrounds, just stunning. Some with photographic technique that I can admire but not emulate.

And some are basic shots taken on the bathroom sink.

I like them all. Tabac and a Merkur 34C? Love it. Martin de Candre and a Wolfman? Love it. Stirling and Schick Injector? Love it. Aqua di Parma and Cobra Classic? Love it.

Aside from the gear is the appreciation I have for the gentleman participating in our hobby and being generous enough with his time to share with us a picture, composed or not.

I take them primarily to record my experience with a particular setup (as I follow them with a review of the components) and share that experience with others that might be interested in them. Bragging? Hardly. I shave with inexpensive stuff just as much as more expensive stuff. In fact, other than my BSB brush, most of my gear is pretty pedestrian. I use what works for me.

I like them because I like seeing how people set up the shots and themes. I enjoy photography so I look at a lot of these photos as a learning opportunity not just for SOTD pics but composition and post editing that I could use for other types of photography. I just wish I had more time in a day to actually take some pics to post....

I don't look at them and avoid the threads. I've done it in the past and will do it once in a rare while, but usually just on my bathroom sink. At most, I pull the items onto my deck and take them in natural light.

I'm not about to photoshop theme historic backgrounds into them, drag them to my garden, balance them on each other on a string over a rushing river and take a pic. I find many of them a bit odd to say the least. Many of the SOTD, just show a razor and brush in some out of place setting, which make no sense to me as that was not your SOTD, it's just your picture worthy gear to show off.

In comparison, food shots are of food on your plate, no real staging and just a quick shot before eating. Those I do and don't mind if people think I'm weird in that way. Now I take pics of slingshots, so I have quirks too.

People can post them all they want, SOTD threads are easy to ignore as there is no other content in there so nothing I want to read or contribute to.
