I used the MMOC for a third straight day and the shave was very close, but a bit too harsh for a daily driver. I also got two weepers again. The lather was great as usual, and the balm does help, but the MMOC will be relegated for occasional use.

The Italian Shave

Sometimes I like to shave with Italian shaving products only. This Sunday was one of those times and for the occasion I used my homemade shave products, an Omega brush and a Mastro Livi straight razor. The pre-shave oil, shaving cream and aftershave were all made by me at home and I am sure many of you know I like to make my own shaving stuff at home as a hobby. I like experimenting and to test new recipes, something I am doing since more than ten years now. I believe shaving with your homemade products adds extra pleasure to the pleasure of shaving, a rite made of small however big things, something you slowly savor while avoiding the frenzy of our modern times. The shave was absolutely special thanks to the super smoothness of this Mastro Livi Stripes CarboInox straight razor, a superb BBS shave!

  • Pre-Shave: RazorGuy Pre-Shave Oil
  • Soap: RazorGuy Almond Oil Shaving Cream
  • Brush: Omega Bristle 10275
  • Bowl: Chinese Bowl
  • Strop: Mastro Livi Travel Loom Strop and Hand Palm
  • Razor: Mastro Livi Stripes CarboInox Italy, 7/8 Full Hollow, Spanish Point
  • Post-Shave: Alum Block
  • Post-Shave: Umbrian Extravirgin Olive Oil
  • After Shave: RazorGuy Bay Rum

SOTD: 1/7/2017 - "Finding Balance"

Pre: Hot shower
Soap: Catie's Bubbles "Noah L'Orange"
Brush: Pav Brushworks 3-band "Ghost Trails" Silvertip
Razor: Hone Type 15/a Hybrid w/ Personna Lab Blue (3)
Post: Captain's Choice Products Cat O' Nine Tails splash

This shave went deep for me. Be prepared, I'm about to open up.
I've struggled with this soap. To be honest, I'm not a huge fan of cypress, which is the first not that hits my nose. It's strong. It's difficult to get past. You have to lather this soap to get through it and get to the other sweeter, citrusy, more enjoyable notes.
In a lot of ways, this soap is a metaphor for my relationship with my son - especially tonight. I have a hard time with his disability. A REALLY hard time. So much so that I often find myself fighting and getting angry with God because he gave me a son that I struggle to love. The things I find difficult are so ever-present with him. And yet, if I will just get into it and allow it to open up, I find a much sweeter, more satisfying experience. It's a balance that *I* have to strike on my own.

This shave was perfect - just like Noah, once I gave it a chance.

Be Smooth and shave it up, everyone!

Thanks for taking the time to share you insights.  I will, and I hope others will, benefit from your honest observations. Those that make me struggle often provide my most rewarding relationships.

+1. Cannot say it any better than Chris has written.

A flawless shave. I think my new favorite injector. No need for touch ups with this baby and damn she looks good too.

This is a horrible shave brush. The marble handle has little marble, and the knot is a disaster. I switched to a Ever Ready 100 T I had curing on top of the a cabinet for the final 2 passes.
