SOTN Thursday
Cheap Date Night
prep - shower with Caprina Fresh Goat’s Milk Original Formula bar soap
razor - QShave Adjustable Futur clone ($14?)
blade - Shaverboy Super Stainless (20 - and done, so tonight's shave cost me all of 0.3975 cents in blades)
brush - Fendrihan Classic Pure Grey Badger (CAD$23)
soap - Mitchell's Wool Fat Luxury Shaving Soap - probably the most expensive part of the shave.
post - warm water rinse, DSA “Pure & Natural” alum, cold water rinse.
The alum stick was $8 a year ago, and it's only half done with daily use.
aftershave - Mennen Skin Bracer (the Kraft Mac & Cheese of aftershaves)
music - an
earworm rendition of Jethro Tull's "Mother Goose", which I've begun trying to learn on acoustic guitar.
The Old Spice mug was something like $2 at a thrift store. It looks like the previous owner ran it through an automatic dishwasher a few times, causing the graphics to fade.
I had a full puck of MWF in it, but it wasn't sitting at the bottom of the mug, so I pried it up with a butter knife. Turns out it had swelled enough with water to fill the bottom anyway. Better than mould or something icky. I left about 1/3 of the puck in the mug and squished it down flat. I wanted more room for whipping up lather in the mug itself, instead of charging the brush from it and building the lather in a bowl. The lather was abundant and creamy, but the brush handle kept knocking against the side of the mug. Something like a recycled TOBS tub would be better.
Another drawback to using just the OS mug is that the lather comes out cold.
I usually park the brush in a floating lather bowl, which is warmed by the hot water in the sink. Works like a giant modern-type scuttle.
The red lid is a lid from a container of Duncan Hines cake icing. It's a perfect snug fit for Old Spice mugs, and I bought the icing just for the lid.
I had the QShave set to #4 (out of 6) for the WTG first pass, #5 for the ATG 2nd pass, and #6 for the 3rd (all directions). Amazingly no weepers, just a BBS.
PS. Good news. I found an older camera around the house that works fine. It's much bulkier and won't accept high-capacity xD memory cards, it but produces better photos.
