2 disappointing soaps so far this year:

MW - dissapating lather phenomena

B&M Leviathan - cannot handle the animalistic, fecal-like musk scent

Concur on the SV. I tried Cosmos. Meh. Thin lather and average not up to the hype.

I get awesome lathers from SV. Check out the link below from Shave Tank (member here) and see if that looks thin. The key to SV for me is to bloom it first and load heavy. I can get it plenty thick via face lather. I admit I had problems the first couple times too, but video proof of what it could be like drove me to try again.

I will gladly take SV off your hands! Cool

That stuff is long gone my friend. Sorry.

I don't doubt that people get good lathers from SV if they say so. However, I have now tried 3 different pucks of that stuff and thrown every lathering trick at it possible (I am a lather snob so I definitely don't under-load the brush), but still can't get what I seem to be a sufficient lather. I'm glad you enjoy it, but it won't be coaxing anymore money out of my wallet. That money is best left alone for more Nuàvia, Pure2O, & B&M.

I understand, but wanted to share my experience since I had similar issues early on. I'm with you on the other three you mentioned, all favorites of mine too. As for SV, Cosmo may end up as the only one I use long term. The other scents I tried might as well have been unscented once lathered.

I don't hate it but Wilkinson Shaving Soap has defeated my every attempt to use it.

I kind of - sort of feel sorry for it as I know which recycling bin it is headed for if it doesn't cooperate PDQ.

Too bad. Attractive blue bowl.

See this is also how I use SV and I get solid lathers out of it. I will say however, that I'm using SV up faster than any hard puck I can think of. I can literally see the puck shrink after each use. Not sure its worth the $25 or even $28 sometimes that it costs. I do very much enjoy the scents so we will have to see if I purchase them again.

Bloom and heavy load is my standard MO as well and not just with SV.

I get good lather out of SV but it is one that, strictly from my perspective, doesn't live up to the hype. Simply good, not exceptional and as the bar is continually being raised by producers, falling a little behind in a relative sense.

I have had a couple rough go around a this year...

Crabtree & Evelynn East Indian Lime--could not get this soap to work for me. No matter how hard I tried I could not get any slickness from this soap.

Straight Razor Designs Opus X--horrible soap. Smells like a spittoon, thin, poop-brown lather, very little slickness, airy lather lacking cushion, and zero post shave.

B&M Night Music-- I loved the scent in this soap and I wanted to love it so much but I simply could not get it to perform for me. No slickness and it dried out to a pasty crust halfway through each pass.

Local Artisan soap--I bought shave soap from a local artisan. Smelled great, lathered quick and easy, provided no slickness. Just the opposite it got sticky when wet.

Other than that I can't think of anything that wasn't at least decent for me...
