Catie’s Bubbles is a top U.S. artisan soap maker, with a focus on vegan based soaps. By many accounts, Catie’s Bubbles french style soap is the gold standard for performance in the vegan based soap market. Chris Cullen, the owner and founder has worked tirelessly to perfect a formula that provides his users with a luxurious shaving experience at a very fair price. Catie’s Bubbles has been featured in Forbes and is very present in the wet shaving community. Catie’s Bubbles can be purchased directly on their website or from other third party resellers such as Shave Revolution or Maggard Razors.

As always, I will provide my complete honest review and I have not received any compensation or preferential treatment for my review. This is strictly for the community to use as a tool in making informed decisions. Most importantly, these are my opinions and mine alone. If you do not like them or disagree with them, I respect that and ask that you do the same.

Please note that I often review products from the same artisan and to save myself time, the introduction, packaging and lather may be identical or slightly tweaked. The uniqueness normally will be found in scent, price and overall.

Packaging:
‘95 Liquid Labels comes in the standard Catie’s Bubbles tub with the same beautiful label formatting on the top label and side labels. This packaging is among the best in the business and is my personal favorite. Being the new French+ formula, the soap weighs in at 4 ounces which leaves lots of room to load the brush up without spilling any protolather over. Packaging score 10/10.

Lather:
If you were impressed by Catie’s Bubbles french formula before, and who the hell wouldn’t be, wait until you take on this new French+ formula. Dry soap, wet brush and 10 seconds of loading and you are on your way to an unbeatable lather. The cushion and slickness combo on this soap is unmatched in the vegan space. The ability to really drown this soap and dial in the slickness makes it ideal for shavers of all skill levels and who use all sorts of tools. Lather score 10/10.

Scent:
‘95 Liquid Labels is an ode to the immensely popular Tommy Cologne releases in 1995 by Tommy Hilfiger. Many wet shavers that are active in the community where in high school or college in the mid ‘90’s and will appreciate this vibrant reminder of days past. The scent is a citrus aromatic with Top notes of mint, lavender and bergamot; middle notes of cranberry, rose and granny smith apple; base notes of amber, cactus and cotton flower. This scent is mid to strong on the puck and through the lather. If you were or are a fan of Tommy, this is your scent. For me, this is not a go-to scent, but the nostalgia of the scent is great for me. If I was scoring on scent intent this would be a clear cut 10 but I score based on how I like the scent in general for my own use. Scent score 8.5/10.

Price:
At $14.00 for 4 oz of soap, this is soap comes in at $3.50/oz. The ingredient list is as follows: Stearic Acid, Water, Coconut Oil, Potassium Hydroxide, Fragrance, Sodium Lactate, Glycerine, Jojoba. A simple yet highly effective ingredients list that provides a quality lather. Price score 9.5/10.

Bottom Line:
This one is simple, if you like Tommy, buy this soap. If you don’t like Tommy, buy another Catie’s Bubble in the new French+ formula. ‘95 Liquid Labels gets an overall score of 9.35/10.[/b]

Hey Ruds,

Thanks for the review, I was curious on the scent when it was first announced.

Side note that some wet shavers may have not picked up on, although the scent is based on Tommy Cologne as Ruds pointed out, the actual title
'95 Liquid Labels seems to pay homage to one of the best hip hop albums released in 1995, Liquid Swords by The Gza (member of the Wu-Tang Clan). The catie's bubble description of the scent on the website seems to further support this with mentions of the Wu-Tang clan, in addition to 'labels' being a track off the album that references "Tommy Boy Records" (a subtle nod to Tommy Hillfiger) in the opening lines.

Sorry if that was a little wordy, and again this is my opinion, but I was excited when I noticed the connection. Can't wait to try this one out!
