That was a terrifying shave experience to say the least.

I congratulate Robini for starting this thread. As of today there has only been 12 replies. I hope there will be many more as time goes on because we all know how many people post replies to what we used today.

It has opened my eyes to the buying habits of members. I was surprised, that other than myself there were only 2 replies that had 9 different brands. I have taken the opposite approach. I choose to purchase many brands. In addition, there are several bands which I own that only make one product such as Mitchels Wool Fat, Dr. Dittmar, I Coloniali (gone but not forgotten), Bath House Spanish Fig, Alvarez Gomez Baberia and Tabac to name a few.

Lately, my soap purchases have been back ups of soaps I really like and am running low on. Without going into brands, I believe that several manufactures are using the same soap or cream formula but using different fragrances. Fragrance is not a criterion for me to purchase a soap. It, in my opinion is something that lasts briefly, not anything like a cologne which can last hours. I do this because if I choose to purchase a soap that just came out I may not like it. Some of my soaps and creams I will not purchase again when it is completely gone. I am sure most of you will agree I have read reviews on how XYZ soap is great and I did not like it at all.

The reason I replied in such a flip manner is because like Tidepool I have soaps from a lot of makers and frankly did not wish to take considerable time to "do the math". What I can say is I've enjoyed the responses of those who have posted. Keep em coming.

I have used and tried most commercial and artisanal soaps, within the past nine years, but I have come to realize that there isn't anything that is SIGNIFICANTLY better than my principal soap and that is why I only listed two soaps in my initial post. Big Grin

Honestly, I would be very happy using anyone of the various artisanal soaps available, at the moment. I just happened to choose the one I use because of its low cost, plethora of scents and its superb performance.

Mine would be the same. The only manufacturers I think I have more then 1 of is Stirling (4) and West coast (2). West coast is actually 1 Caties, 1 PAA as that's who made the bases. So, my Stirling would be like 18%. Everything else would be like 5%.

I only have 22 soaps. Even with this diversity, I'm missing a few of the big ones such as declaration grooming, grooming Dept, and whooly kaw.

Keep in mind I'm still in the neighborhood of a year traditional shaving. So the spread is somewhat intentional. Of those I have now, I probably lean towards PAA, Catie's, or black ship based on quality of the shave. That's a little surprising as I expected more from Stirling and less from black ship.
