Hi just wondering if anyone has tried a Simpsons Manchurian and a declaration grooming b3 ? I have a Simpsons Manchurian but haven't tried a B3 IV heard it's abit scritchy and scrubby but wondering how it compares to a Manchurian if anyone has tried both are they simular ?

Tried both and found the Manchurian from Simpson’s less scritchy but more scrubby due to being substantially denser and having a stronger backbone. I had a B3 brush from an original batch in a BoK handle and sold it very soon after acquiring it due to scritchiness. I recently purchased another B3 from a member here (in Mozingo handle) and this batch seems to be dramatically different - I did not detect any scritchiness at all. The knot is also not as dense as my first B3.

Ok interesting thanks for your thoughts. It seems the b3 has abit of variety depending on the batch.

Sorta kinda echo Ang's comments having owned multiples of both.  The worst versions of both knots - and there is also substantial variation amongst Simpson Manchurian knot characteristics - are about equal in what some may reference scritchiness, while the best of the Simpson Manchurian flat outperform the best of the B3 (even with the best of the B3 being decent knots).

A couple of items of note:

B3 knots get significantly better with multiple iterations of knot cleaning and prep

B3 knots get significantly better with usage

B3 knots at their worst are NOT scritchy if proper technique used to lather the face, in other words NOT mashing the knot into the face.  It is really the mid areas of the hair that gives the sensation of roughness, not the tips

You would be well advised to view the post comparing and contrasting Scott's worst and best knots as perceived by the general public - it may surprise you:
