Sometimes there is a silver lining: my wife, who works as administrative assistant for a medical group practice, switched to working remotely from home when the pandemic first started, and she was told recently by the doctors that she will be able to continue her work from home - which she loves - indefinitely, even after the pandemic disappears. I like having her at home too.

That's really good news!

I wonder if the big cities will ever recover? After reading about parts of NYC becoming a ghost town I've heard nothing since then. But why maintain office space if the works gets done w/o it? Why live in the city if one can do the work from elsewhere?

One problem associated with that is that city folks are moving out to the booneys and they know nothing about living in the forest. One this past autumn, after leaf drop, got a burning permit and I assume that because the permit was issued he thought that meant that he could disengage his mind (or maybe it was engaged, that would be even worse). He chose a day with very high winds and dry leaf litter everywhere, even the field he had the fire in was covered with bone dry tall grass, during a severe drought, to light his huge fire to dispose of tree waste. We don't take kindly to folks who risk burnng our homes down with a forest fire since we all live in the forest and a brain damaged child would have known better than to burn on that day. Luckily the fire dept' got here and was able to put it out before it became a problem for all of us.
