I was giving my Mergress it's weekly cleaning and looking for telltale signs of Dorian Grey corruption of the Zamack. I was wiping it clean and realized I possess a potential tool never mentioned to my knowledge; the Silicone gun and reel cloths sold for those items. I have very acidic body chemistry and
my fingerprints can leave 'jewelry' the horseman's term for bumps and scars on a working horse in minutes. I dug it out and was very pleased with the
result. I thought I'd share this and get some feedback.

It will definitely protect the metal. The only possible concerns would be if the silicone irritates or if the tiny amount of silicone that gets into the micro cuts poses a toxicity issue over time. I don't know much about silicone and have no idea whether it's toxic. The only other thing would be to insure that the handle doesn't get too slippery.

It has long been recommended that folks living in very humid areas that use carbon steel straight razors put a thin coat of oil on the blade between uses. I don't have to do this, though would probably use an edible oil if it were needed.

I use this and it works great. It is a lighter coating than oil and is a great protectant.
