I can't find Paul T's post on removing silicone from the socket! Paul mentioned the need to have it clean if we sent a handle in for work. I just want to clean out a socket as best I can and I can't find that post. Thanks!

Hey Eric, looks like Dave forwarded you the PM I sent the other day, but here’s the info for future reference and for others:

To get rid of silicone residue, pour paint thinner in the knot socket and let it sit overnight. The paint thinner dissolves/loosens the silicon pretty well. At least on my handles, I haven't seen it mess with the resin/finish at all. Probably best not to try this though on my wood handles.

No wonder I couldn't find it in a post! I need to remember to take my Previgen!!

TGN 27mm boar in Cascadia Line
MWS Sensitive Skin
Personna GEM (5)
GEM Clof Pruf Peerless (17 nibs)

I probably should have saved this for Micromatic Monday, but I have been waiting for the Peerless to come up! This razor is fairly audible and so smooth! (I probably say that about most of the GEMs, but it's true!). The blade was losing steam by pass 3, needing lots of extra buffing. I am finding the Personna PTFE blades give me between 4 to 6 decent shaves before I call it quits.

Glad to break out the Sensitive Skin again, too. I had just used Bartigan & Stark's Nil, which really, really impressed me, and wanted to compare it to my Top Soap. I think it is too close to call. If I had to pick, it would be MWS due to the unique scent. But based on shave properties, man, that's tough. B&S Nil lathers like a dream, whereas MWS was known for being fussy (Michelle recently reformulated it by adding citric acid, so it lathers readily now). Face feel both immediately afterward and several hours later is close, but again, I think MWS might get the nod. The problem is with me, I've used MWS ever since starting down this rabbit hole in November 2015. Nil is new to the den, only 6 shaves with it.

What I can say is this: Nil has made the Top 3 into the Top 4, with MWS, Shannon's Soaps Nil, and Mike's Natural Soaps unscented. These will always be in the soap drawer.

MW is a great soap brand. I should use mine soon... It has been a while. I have the unscented variant called Coconut Sandalwood.

It might be on deck for tomorrow.

Interesting writeup Eric - thanks.  Your soap comparisons sound very realistic; neither hasty nor "band-wagony" like some (including some of mine lol).  Also, this is the first I've heard about the MWS reformulation.  Perhaps the website has not been updated yet.  I could not find anything about citric acid or reformulation on mystic4men.com, and a google search on ("reformulation" OR "reformulate" or "citric acid") site:mystic4men.com turned up nothing.  Did you hear about the change elsewhere?  I would like to think there has been a reformulation to ease the lathering.  I love the Sweet Briar Tobacco scent but found building the lather tricky.  I'm also a sucker for gardenia, and she carries a Gardenia soap too.

Let me look into it, Mike. I was one of the testers a while back. She sent out samples and asked us to compare ease of lathering and soap scum formation. I have the info somewhere...
