And I couldn't tell you the difference in terms of performance. I have both types in my den, use both interchangeably without any adaptation or alteration of my techniques, and I get great lather from both varieties, everytime, following identical routines and techniques...

Agreed.
I think in the early days tallow had the edge as it has been used for centuries so it was a well developed product. But with the explosion of shave mfrs pushing the bar of quality higher and higher, they are almost interchangeable. Inter-company competition for our money has improved the quality of product we see today.

I even remember seeing a thread on a board that read "Vegan soaps that perform like tallow". While that was an insightful and though provoking thread, I decided that if I closed my eyes to that portion of the ingredient list, could I really tell a difference? Answer: NO not really.

While I want to like tallow based more, performance and scent tend to win out for me. And if you saw my shave shelves picture, you would know that I have a very balanced diet.

I dunno BadDad.  You don't see the following as universally true?

"Wet shaving will cost way, way, way, way more than you expected."   Tongue

I've actually read post from people who claim that they only have one razor, one soap and that they buy their blades at a local stores.   Incredible, I know, but there are actually some sane wet shavers out there who are really saving money.

I thought I was the only person in my company who uses a DE razor until this week.   It turns out that a coworker has been using a DE razor for years.   He has used the same razor and the same blades (Merkur) since he stopped buying carts to...wait for it...save money.  I showed him a couple of wet shaving forums and I gave him some samples of aftershaves and blades, so perhaps I've sent him down the road to perdition we all know so well.

You can save money by switching to wet shaving, but where's the fun in that?

Well, don't fell guilty...as long as it is the last one you ever buy.  Big Grin
