Shaving help....

So, ive been shaving exclusively with a Muhle R41 for the past 6 months with absolutely no irritation.

Last night i changed the head to R89 and tried some new cella. I have razor burn on my neck and was left with a bit of stubble in patches. Really unhappy with the shave overall but more so about the razor burn.

Any ideas? Was this the cella or the change of head.

Also, imo, it is difficult to learn how to shave with 41 than 89, but it is difficult to learn how to get a bbs/great shave with 89 than 41.

I get bbs with zero irritation with my R41.
I really think i need to stick to aggressive razors.

Unless you are willing to spend time and learn how to use a mild razor properly, no point changing what is working for you.

And it isn't even guaranteed that you will be able to learn. I for example, can, now get bbs shaves with 89 and some tech razors, but can't do that consistently without irritation with milder techs, Feather AS D2 . I simply don't have the technique and fine motor control skill.

I have no problem getting bbs with Fatip Grande, R41 etc.

I don’t really have the time and patients for the mild razors. I want to get a nice clean shave in minimal time....and i always get that with the R41. So.....Muhle mild head for sale

Most likely, you used too much pressure with the R89, unless you are allergic to something in the Cella soap.
If you are getting great shaves with the R41, then continue to use it.

If the new soap is not to blame, then I think because of the less blade feel of the 89 you used more pressure and got irritation. The R41 is so effective we all know it will bite if pressed on to the skin, so we don't do it.

Im not sure about the cella. I personally didnt like it at all...
I will use my Valobra stick and try the R89 again....
However, i do think i might have used a slight bit of pressure due to no blade feel at all.

Use a soap you know is a good performer, use a sharp blade ( Feather), watch pressure and angle.

I very much prefer aggressive razors with sharp blades. I have zero problems with any of them. Just this morning I got a two pass DFS ( Nearly BBS) with a 40s Super Speed ( mild razor) with a Gillette Platinum.

You may want to try incorporating an alum block into your routine. When I was learning my technique I used one after every shave and it really helped to calm the irritation. Now I will only use it if I have a “rough” shave. If you’ve not used one before it’s easy. After a warm water rinse, leave your face wet and glide the block over the shaved areas then give yourself a cold water rinse, pat dry and apply post Shave product as normal. It’ll sooth that burn.
