I just wonder what others think. I really like the idea of resharpenable straights. I've read numerous articles, watched videos, etc. Doing my best, I try again and again to set a bevel, hone with progressively finer grits, then strop. I've tried lots of combinations. Lots of different steels, manufacturers, including "the best".
I admit, maybe my technique isn't as good as others.
All that being said, when I shave with many of the above, I get what seems to be a dragging sensation, as though my blade is dull.
That's markedly different than using a Feather shavette, with any number of blades. Always, it feels like I'm using a hot knife through butter. No dragging, just whiskers gone.
Is this just my failure at honing, stropping, or does everyone share this experience?
With all the money I've spent on razors, stones, strops, I could have bought a lifetime supply of single edge blades. That's not the point; I'd just like to be a wizard ar resharpening.
I'd appreciate others experience and wisdom.

Get it honed by a professional and try it.  If it shaves like I expect it would, it’s your honing.  If it doesn’t, you are an outlier.

Some people say different things.  I’ve had good experiences with The Razor Emporium for this.

What hones and methods are you using to sharpen your straight razors?

The Feather Artist Club blades are super sharp like the storied Feather Hi-stainless DE blades. it is possible to make a traditional straight razor just as sharp, but it takes the right hones and the right technique.

Some people can shave off a Belgian Coticule or an 8K synthetic from Norton or Naniwa. I find edges off those stones to be horribly dull. Although a Naniwa 12K Superstone can produce an edge sharp enough for my beard, my skin find the edge to be somewhat harsh. I have a Suehiro Gokumyo 20K synthetic that will produce an edge sharp enough and smooth enough for myh beard and skin. However, I can also achieve that same quality edge with some natural stones such as the Greek Vermio, the Imperia la Roccia from regions unknown, and the Zulu Gray from South Africa. I do not have a Japanese natural as getting the right stone can be a challenge, but many love using them.

Another way to achieve similar results is to use natural hone rates around the 10-12K level and then use ultra fine abrasives on pasted strops to finish the edge. There are a number of threads on the forum concerning pasted strops.
