Shavemac advice, please

Hey guys. I'm looking at ordering a custom Shavemac brush in 2-band silver tip, and am after something that feels a bit bigger (my two other high-end badgers are a Thater and a Shavemac, both three-band, and both around 23/24mm bulbs).

I had a Thater 4125/1 two-band (24/52) which felt just a bit too stiff to me. Still nice, but I didn't love it.

I'd still like a nice 2-band as I like the idea of a brush that is soft but not floppy. I exclusively face lather.

Right now I'm thinking a Shavemac 2-band silver tip in bulb 26mm, at either 54 or 56 loft. I'm hoping, though, that you guys can help me choose between those lofts and maybe explain how they'd differ.

Also, I'm open to a fan shape instead if you think it could be better. What are your thoughts?

The new Shavemac Silvertip 2-Band knots are excellent!
I have a 28 x 51.5mm Fan knot in a custom handle and it has plenty of backbone; not as strong as a few of my other 2-Bands, but it is quite adequate.
If you are contemplating the 26mm Bulb, then the loft might depend on how much backbone you desire. A loft of 54mm would be my recommendation, but if you did not like your Thater 24 x 52mm, then you may be better off with the 56mm.
However, YMMV and you may just need to experience these knots for yourself to make a subjective evaluation.

Thank you, celestino! On another site someone said that 26/56 would offer slightly less backbone and better flowthrough than 26/54, so I'm thinking 2-band silver tip bulb in 26/56 will be the way to go here, for what I prefer.

Hi onethinline I agree with celestino in that the new 2-band silvertips from Shavemac are fantastic knots.

I have a couple 26mm 2-bands [set to ~28mm], one with a loft of 54mm and one with a loft of 56mm. I very much like both but the 56mm is my favorite.

I almost didn't get this loft as I don't mind some backbone and felt it was going to be too soft for my taste but followed Bernd's guidance and very glad that I did.

I have both brushes in the rotation right now and when I get home from the office will take a snap for side by side comparison.

Thanks again for the help, guys. I ended going with a 2-band 26/56 bulb. Looking forward to it! (It may kick a brush out of the roster, too. I'm finding I like to keep my collection relatively lean 'n' mean these days.)

I don't think you'll be disappointed onethinline . Little late to the party but here are two 26mm, 2-bands. They are set at ~28mm; 56mm loft on the left and 54mm on the right. Both great brushes as mentioned but the 56mm takes the title.

Also, I like the knots extra dense so usually add a note in the comments to request a dense knot. If you are the same, you could always email after the fact.

If you are looking for something that feels bigger and is not too stiff, maybe you should indeed get a fan instead of a bulb. A 26/50 would feel big, have sufficient backbone but definitely not be stiff.

Good thought! Well, I'll start with the one I ordered, and that'll help me decide where to go next (or maybe I should pretend that I'm not going to order any more brushes).

Thanks Barry- I don't recall either of these brushes having lost a single hair either and the performance is top notch.

Looking forward to your thoughts when you get yours onethinline. Which handle did you go with?
