I am very happy he decreased the size, since the razor weighs around 100 grams, even it has many components.
Excellent work. Very looking forward to try it.

Yep. Trains leaving the station today! ,*fingers crossed*

Eric...if there is a way to pay extra $$$ for expedited shipping, I'd be down to pay the fees.

There’s some progress…the toggle stem is done. This took a while to get done! The programmer/machinist assigned to Janus is working a weird schedule (staggered, shorter, flexible). This wasn’t the case when the shop took on the project. COVID-19 threw a wrench into the works. Onto the toggle knob starting tomorrow 03/30.

The new shipping date is April 24th. We worked on this together considering the reality on the new working hours and mutual agreement that this must be the last reschedule I issue. The machine shop is still open because it is classified essential in Minnesota because they work on parts for medical devices. This means stuff will keep moving forward, although slowly, instead of grinding to a halt. Polishing & passivation takes couple days because the Janus parts will wait to be batched with other customers’ small 316 SST parts.

April Update

Gents, I picked up the doors this evening. I will be dropping them off on Tuesday for polishing and passivation. And then onto assembly next week.

FYI - the company that made the handbooks agreed to remake them so that the colors match the packaging and are true to the colors in the illustrator file.

Update

½ of the razors have been assembled. I expect to have ¾ (~38 razors) assembled by 4pm and the rest on Monday 27th.

Realistic date to ship is now Tuesday April 24th. Assembly is slower than we had anticipated - the project is assigned 1 assembly technician who is only working 3hrs/day (1-4) and assembling these for the ‘1st’ time. I will share an accurate count of the fully assembled razors including a photo at ~4:30pm. I will also hang around to answer any questions or chat then.

Here is a photo of the assembly job this afternoon. We have 39 done. 12 more to go.

Everything looks great, thanks a lot. I have an easy question.
With time, is it ever possible to have uneven blade gaps like toggle, fatboy?

Looking forward also to our newest razors but guys don't get bent regarding shipping speed as shipping has been delayed across the country and especially to coastal regions due to Covid issues. There are plenty of staffing issues (people are sick and worse) and (personal) concerns with handling letters/cargo (as per my discussion with my local post office). Here in NY I have had guaranteed 3 day shipping take over 3 weeks. Just don't freak when, depending on where you live, you do not receive it as quickly. Also I do not work for a shipping company, USPS or Janus - just my 2 cents.

In light of what's going on, that is great news Eric. With the workforce in the US struggling to keep their jobs and taking cuts in their work hours, it's completely logical that many manufacturers will have to make adjustments in production as we all go forward with the current situation. The nation is going through a period of health & economical difficulties that's unprecedented in our history.

4-5 days won't hurt a soul. Thanks again for your candor, honesty and upfront info on the razors progress.

Stay safe, be safe.....

It's been 6 months or so, I doubt guys are gonna fritz because it's delayed in a shipping vortex of death. Of course, I'd like to have mine in hand ASAP, but I have plenty of razors. I would prefer they ship via anything other than USPS but it's not the end of the world. Photos of the finished product and a firm shipping date should satiate the vast majority of the 51 of us. I've only commented in an effort to get some kind of discussion going on the board....light hearted banter to pass the lockdown time. I'm obviously in the minority.

I'm just tickled the Janus is actually done, or damned near. It should make a nice addition to my adjustable stable.

I believe left to right is PVD Coated black Janus prototype? Janus LE, Janus LE, Gillette toggle.

I’ve been known to be wrong though. Smile

If you are wrong, we both are.  The final Janus LE was scaled down from the prototype based on feedback Eric got.  That is the photo I was referencing with my comment  re: polish.  Assuming those were complete.  They look good, but I'd expect the reflections to be cleaner on a mirror.  It is just a photo.  Hopefully, this time next week I'll have it in hand.
Yes - the point was to show that the feedback from the prototypes testing got implemented into the final product e.g. reducing dome height, length, weight, etc. As far as the surface finish goes, I had just picked up the doors, quickly made a sub-assembly to show and they hadn't gone through polishing to work the milled surface.
