1.  I thought I had read earlier in this thread you said there would be a $250 or $300 deposit, yet it appears the full payment is due immediately.  Why the change?  How is what you did on DFS and different that the Kickstarter campaign...other than the razor is much, much smaller?
2.  Full payment up front, on a product that may not ship for 4 to 5 months.  Does that put potential buyers outside of any protection offered by PayPal?  What assurances are there that there will actually be razors built?
3.  Earlier in this thread, I believe you stated all refund requests would be honored.  You gave no stipulations.  Is that still your intent?  Refunds will be immediately returned, at any point prior to shipping?  Is there a "drop dead" refund request date?

Thanks in advance for your time.

All refund requests will be honored even in the midst of production. No pre-conditions.

Not yet. 37 pre-ordered. Some folks requested a little more time which I totally understand. 3 on the reserve list requested to be taken off. So there are 3 that can still be reserved (#50, #48 & #39)
The three still not spoken for are #30, #48 & #39.

Thanks Eric. If that doesn't convince any fence riders, there is nothing else you can do. Frankly, it seems like an easy "in".

This will be a lot of fun to watch over the coming months. I've followed this from the onset with great interest. I think with the changes you've made, the end product should be pretty special.

As a Toggle fan, I'm stoked. A wide mouthed, tooth forward revamp of the sexiest razor Gillette produced is going to be nice. That is a family photo I look forward to taking.

Congratulations on finally getting it launched. And thanks for graciously approving the Serial # change request, it was much appreciated.

Hi Eric,
After this 50 razors sold-out, are you going to make more Janus razors?
Which one is the razor final appearance? It will be exactly like this one:

Good Luck!

This was in covered in the newsletter. I will try and paste it here. Hopefully it works:

Update from Janus Razors

The homework on the small batch limited to only 51 sequentially numbered pieces is complete. Please read up on the particulars.
So, what sets apart the limited edition pieces from the regular production units? This special expression of the Janus Razor has an elevated aesthetic from six unique design touches that will never appear in future production… done once, and then done no more. These touches gel together well rather than being a bunch of changes for differences sake.

Red ‘Dot’ setting indicator[https://ci4]A Different but familiar design element - a nod to the old design from which the Janus Razor is inspired by. In the limited edition pieces, the indicator for the selected setting will be an oblong dimple filled with permanent red ink.

Regular production units will sport a laser marked ‘donut’ for this setting indicator.Typeface on the dial[https://ci4]The typeface (in bold) used on the dial and safety plate/guard of the limited edition pieces will be different than that used on regular production. Just from the typeface alone, one will be able to readily tell apart the limited edition pieces from the production units.Markers in between the dial numbersThe limited edition pieces will sport an oblong laser mark in between the odd numbers on the dial.

Regular production units will sport a filled laser marked circle.Red ‘dots’ on each side of the toggle knob[https://ci4]Another different but familiar design element - another nod to the old design from which the Janus Razor is inspired by

In the limited edition pieces, each flat side of the toggle knob will sport an oblong dimple filled with permanent red ink. This design feature is a visual aid for thumb placement when pivoting the toggle knob. The production units will not have a mark on the toggle knob.

Oblong - oblong ink-filled dimple on the part above the dial, oblong laser marks on the dial and oblong ink-filled dimples on the toggle knob are repeating design elements that tie together the elevated aesthetic of the limited edition pieces.Sequentially serialized[https://ci5]Each unit is serialized to show its position in the 51 piece queue. Email (eric@janusrazors.com) me to reserve your number.

As soon I have 51 spoken for (only 20 are left), I will add a Buy Button on the Janus Razors website.Red ‘dots’ on the Safety GuardThis is my second stab at trying to get the Janus Razor to market.

Certain projects start as ideas that permanently affix themselves in one’s mind. One risks ‘insanity’ if they don’t give in and work on the idea. “…it’s the pebble in the shoe.”The Limited Edition LookThese design touches gel together well rather than being a bunch of changes for differences sake. Even though the actual product might be a shade off from the render, I like going through this process. The laser marking on the inside of the doors shows what more personalization options could look like. For me, rendering is like beginning with the end in mind by answering how the manufactured product is gonna look like.[https://ci6]Blade ExposureBlade exposure at each setting remains unchanged as previously communicated.[https://ci6]You will get a tad more exposure at each setting depending on the blade used. It should go without saying that one should use whatever blade they prefer. The blade gap range spans from 0.022” at 1 to 0.046” at 9.

The Janus Razor dimensions are as shown below.[https://ci3]Project ScheduleThis is a pre-order with ~5 month wait in addition to being on the spendy side at $500. The Achilles' heel for this project is that set-up costs are distributed over very few units.

Below is a simplified version from a well thought-out and realistic project plan/Gantt Chart that gives the skilled manufacturing partners adequate time to produce great work and ample time to check what is being produced.[https://ci6]I have been part of multiple projects to know that plans are more art than science. Unforeseen things can add delays to the schedule. Most of you have an idea on how I troubleshoot. The least you can expect from me are monthly concise and transparent updates.

If you are interested in the product, are reasonably comfortable with a somewhat low probability of a reasonable delay, then this project is a fit for you. Otherwise, I wouldn’t mind having you as a customer when I start regular production when all my processes/steps are optimized, and I have priced accordingly after knowing my exact costs after this first small batch.RefundsLife happens, and circumstances and priorities change. So, I will honor refund requests. Obviously, my preference is for those rock solid in their decision and with patience to see the process through even though there might be small and reasonable hiccups.

After 51 are spoken for, I will maintain a wait list just in case somebody cancels. First up on the wait list gets the opportunity to purchase when there’s a refund request.

As always, do not hesitate to email me if you have any questions. Please feel free to share, and thanks for subscribing.

Cheers!

Good Luck!
My hope is that they will be production after the limited edition. When? I don't know yet.

The production razors will have a polished 316 SST look just like the Limited Edition. Everything in the assembly is 316 SST.

The production Janus will look different than the LE.

1) Laser mark on the part above the dial instead of a red 'dot'
2) No red 'dot' on each side of the flat face on the toggle knob
3) No red 'dot' pair on the adjuster/safety plate
4) No LE serialization (LXX-51 & so forth) on the safety plate
5) Different typeface on the dial & safety plate
6) Different laser marks (probably filled circles) in between the #s on the dial. The LE has oblong laser marks similar in shape to the dimples filled with the red ink.

There will never be another batch with these 6 elements. With one quick glance, one will be able to tell the LE apart from the production batches.

I can't disagree with you about the wait time. It is a realistic schedule to make in a way such that there are no surprises.

The differences between the LE & production

1) Laser mark on the part above the dial instead of a red 'dot'

2) No red 'dot' on each side of the flat face on the toggle knob
3) No red 'dot' pair on the adjuster/safety plate
