I do have a friendship with Bernd Blos and I can confirm that , Shavemac (Bernd) Males Savile Row.
Most of the Art of Shaving brushes are made by Viktoria , another German company.

I have two Savile Row brushes, a 20mm and the 3824. They are very good, and if you purchase them from qed as the original owner, Charles is a very good person to deal with. If your brush has a problem, you tell him, he takes care of you.

I was told by Rudy Vey that Savile Row uses the basic silvertip from Shavemac, not the 2-Band. I would assess it as soft and very nice. I would prefer more backbone, but I think I tend to be extreme in my quest for backbone in a brush. I have had two Semogue boars and one Semogue 2-band badger, a Simpson Duke, and none of these do it for me. I am having Rudy make me a custom and I shall see how it turns out. It will use the shavemac 2-band silvertip that everyone loves these days. He assures me it is as good as it gets, and I am deciding to put myself in his hands. I will be getting a 22mm knot with a 42mm loft.

The Savile Row has more backbone than the Semogue SOC 2-band badger, and more backbone than the SOC boar. It is a beautiful brush, and I think most would cherish it.

I'm not disagreeing with your take on Charles, but keep in mind.....This is only for NEW brushes purchased directly from QED.

If you buy a Savile Row brush, even if new, from anyone else (private seller in my case) and it turns into a shedder, you are on your own. I know this first hand.

I feel you.
I heard that before, maybe even from you, which is why I specified "original owner" and "from QED". I was in a situation where he asked me how I used the brush, and I thought, "uh oh" but then he did not hesitate when I described my (normal, apparently) usage. I am sorry you didn't get a satisfactory brush out of it. Buying it used is a risk for this very reason, which is why i would worry for a second before inevitably buying whatever I wanted anyway.

Did you find a fabulous brush afterwards?

It's the chance you take with ANY used brush I guess and I wouldn't hesitate to add a new Savile Row brush in the future. But if that time comes, I will likely get Bernd to make me a 3824 handle in a non-ivory material and call it a day.

As for my brush, it was sold on eBay as a known Shedder and someone bought it, soni was able to recoup some of my purchase price.

Shavemac based brushes are fantastic and offer great variety in handle shape, material and knot choice. Really, if you can't find a Shavemac brush that fits your needs, you probably won't find one anywhere.

All evidence has been buried, all tapes have been erased.

@bruce one of my favorite Shavemacs aesthetically was your custom "Smokey Blue". Only time I have ever seen that handle color and one I have always admired. Something like that would make a fantastic group buy down the road IMHO.

I agree with you on all counts by the by.

That is good to know thanks. I am looking for something different from my Thater that I have. I was looking at SR brushes, but I guess I should just go for a shavemac.
