Gopneg (Sergey) sent me a package from Russia that contained 2 absolutely gorgeous straight razors with custom leather sheathes from RusRazors to pass around the forum. once the pass around is completed, we'll auction them off to the highest bidder.

Since the two straight razors are different, it's probably easiest to send both of them together to whoever is on the list.  keeping them for 7-10 days is probably fair because of having both at the same time.

If you'd like to be on the list, please say you're in and tell us what state you're in.  These straight razors are very expensive so it'll be mandatory that they're shipped and insured for $800.

once you spend some time with the razors, please share some thoughts, whether good or bad!

thanks to both Gopneg and RusRazors for sending these out!!

now some photos to show off these beauties!

Hello gentlemen

I held both razors in my hands. Although I am not a great specialist in dangerous razors, I managed to appreciate their pleasant qualities, weight, texture. This is the work of our Russian master Vladislav. these are his works. I sincerely hope that you will like these razors as well.

Steel: ШХ 15
tool steel, batch-forged, grade ШХ15. Bag forging differs from conventional forging in that the razor blade is forged according to the method of making Damascus steel. The only difference is that the package is assembled from one specific steel grade. In this case, it is ШХ15. This method of forging allows us to increase the density of steel tenfold, which has a beneficial effect on the sharpening of the razor and the ability to maintain its sharpness. At the same time, adding a soft shave due to the smoother tip in micro sizes. This type of forging is no longer repeated anywhere in the world. The same can be said about the products themselves. Earl sliding washers are made of 0.2 mm thick brass which contributes to an easy and smooth blade movement.
weight 86 g
blade width 8/8 (23 mm)
concavity 1/2
back thickness 6.9 mm
handle stained hornbeam
slip washers brass

The handcrafted straight razor is produced in one piece and will never be repeated anywhere else.
The razor blade is made of 2600 layers of Damascus steel. The package is assembled from three grades of steels, closely matched in composition and performance characteristics. Due to this, the steel has a structural pattern that never repeats itself twice. Steel selected so that sharpening is as easy as possible, and shaving is as soft as possible.
There are no analogs of razors in the world that could be at the level presented in terms of characteristics and application. The largest allowable number of layers per product size gives the steel a huge density, which affects the suitability to be precisely a thin razor blade, with the possibility of fine sharpening, which remains sharp for many decades.
Sliding washers for smooth running - 0.2 mm brass.
The razor handle is made of natural white buffalo bone, combining elegance, contrast, and practicality. Includes leather case
my apologies for mechanical translation

Best regards, Vadim Ivanov

unfortunately, I don't remember the parametric data, but it can be easily measured

I would enjoy trying them out, I am in California and am happy to insure the package if I am to join. It looks like a couple of killer looking straight razors!

Homelikeshaving, thanks for translating. Vladislav would do well to try to add some translation on his site so people can order from him if they wish.

Completely agree with you, andrewjs18. I have already told him about this more than once. But he is such a person that iron is clearer and closer to him, and maintaining the site is not his element) And nevertheless, in the description under the razors, there is an English version. Of course, this is not a full-fledged translation of all pages, but this is the maximum to which he dared.
And if not for Gopnik and your help, no one in America would have seen his razor. For which thank you both.

How’s the edge on these razors?

The only issue with a SR passaround is that the hone job, and/or errors by previous users can have an extremely huge bearing on the edge quality and therefore peoples opinions.
