I own the RR Aluminum Lupo and I love it.  I like it better than the RR Stainless Gamechanger .68 and .84.  For me, the Lupo is comfortable and efficient.

Question for those who have shaved with both the Aluminum Lupo and the Stainless Lupo:
Is the shave quality (efficiency, smoothness, etc.) of the Stainless Lupo noticeably different and better than the Aluminum Lupo?
The handle and razor geometry are identical.  The only difference is the weight.

Is the shaving quality difference worth purchasing the RR Stainless Lupo?  (I understand that the SS will last longer than the AL version)

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

I have both and like them both. Like you said, the only difference is the weight. But that weight difference is huge! The feel of the aluminum reminds me of the plastic disposable Bics I used for a while in the '80s. It's light! After getting past the shock of its weight, I liked the shave I got from it so much I bought a second one to live in my travel bag.

Then the steel version came out and I was lucky enough to get one. It feels like it weighs a ton compared to the aluminum version. But as soon as I start a shave with it, its weight feels more natural. It has a nice balance, and its mass makes for a smoother, easier shave since I tend to use less pressure with a heavier razor.

I tried using the steel handle on the aluminum head and didn't like that combination. I prefer a razor's balance point to be about two thirds of the way toward the head. The steel handle on the aluminum head is all handle. I bought a RR Mamba 70 with the titanium halo handle just to try that handle on the aluminum Lupo. I like that combination, and I think it's a big improvement over the stock aluminum handle. It adds enough weight to give the razor a little heft, but not too much like the steel handle. Anyway, I highly recommend both these razors. The steel version is my favorite razor right now and maybe the best shaver I've ever used.

Thanks for the feedback. I may try one of my Tibam Titanium handles on the Aluminum Lupo head (if it does not throw off the balance too much).

Based on your feedback, I will add the SS Lupo to my collection, if and when it becomes available in the future.

I have tried both as well and as good as the aluminum Lupo is, the SS version is much better for me. I like the DLC finish where as others did not. I did not find that the finish hindered the quality of the shave at all. I rubbed a little Renaissance Wax on it and no finger prints. Besides the industrial look and finish of the SS DLC version is just bad ass cool! The extra weight made it much more efficient and a tad smoother.

I’ve tried both the SS DLC and the aluminum Lupo. The DLC Lupo I moved along to another home while I’ve held onto my aluminum Lupo. As noted above, the weight of the aluminum can be a bit awkward at first because it really does feel plastic and kinda cheap. That said, I’ve enjoyed the shaves I’ve gotten with the aluminum version more than those I got with my DLC Lupo. While very light, the aluminum Lupo still delivers smooth and plenty efficient daily shaves. For me, the aluminum is a winner and the only Lupo currently still in my den.

Ha! As is often the case around here, sometimes trying a razor a second time after letting it go leads to different results. Smile

I recently picked up a SS Lupo and I’m embarrassed to admit that I’m gonna retract my statement above. While it does shave similarly to the aluminum Lupo, I find the weight of the SS to feel more stable and secure in hand and, for me, produces a more enjoyable shave. And I don’t notice any drag with the DLC coating as compared to the aluminum Lupo head.

I’ve been pairing the razor with a Wizamet blade and it’s been a plenty efficient and comfortable set up for daily shaving. I have no plans to let it go again Wink
