[Image: k50ubgj.jpeg]It seems I have trouble resisting shiny things.  When I saw that the boys at Rockwell had issued a 24 karat gold plated 6S to celebrate their 10 year anniversary. So now I have the Soviet T34 of razors with gold plating. I’m not sure how they managed a matte finish on the gold plating because I thought that gold’s enduring popularity was in a large part due to its shininess. Who knows, maybe in keeping with its T34 theme.  Also, they call it limited edition but there’s no numbers on it anywhere to indicate what number out of the 500 it is or any indication that it’s a limited edition razor. In any case, it’s still pretty nice and after my first shave with it today using a Feather blade on plate three, which is my standard 6S configuration, I was surprised to find that it shaved even smoother than the standard stainless steel 6S. Could it be possible that gold gives a smoother shave? Will I have to have all my razors gold plated??  I think I like it.

Very nice. I've never used one but know they are beloved.

The matte finish is because they started with matte substrate. It looks like it was tumbled maybe. Final results are directly related to the base material finish. The closer to mirror you get, the shinier the end result.

I watched the video on tge website. Sounds like they went out of their way to get the finish just right. Hard to believe they threw away 4k of them to get to the 500 run they sold (if i understood that right).

Not sure why it would seem smoother if the geometry is the same. My guess is the base SS was smoother. You could easily test it by rubbing the two top caps across your lips. The gold may glide better.

Congrats on the addition.

Thanks Paul, the 6S is my favourite razor because of its comfort and efficiency but there’s no denying it’s ugly. I had been thinking lately about ways of making it more attractive apart from squinting my eyes to blur my vision and then I saw the Goldie.  Is it gorgeous? No, but it’s a heck of a lot less ugly!  Big Grin
