reuzel aftershaves

I saw these on @"TheHandleBar" website last night.  are they any good?  they're cheap enough to try, but figured I'd get some input first...

I've not used any yet but have seen people rave about them. That's all I know

Haven't tried it myself, but a friend from another board (granite.glasser) had posted a review some time ago. He had bought it on a whim at his barber and seemed to really liked it. If you want, I can check if it still is a worthwhile product.

Reuzel has changed the appearance of the aftershave not too long ago. The original is a bit cloudy, and it must be from some kind of solids in suspension because it doesn't work in the little spray bottles that I like to use. It comes out as a squirt instead of a spray.
I'm hoping that the newer clear stuff will work better in the sprayer.


I wrote to Reuzel asking what was different, since the listed ingredients are identical on both bottles.

My message:

Hi.
I have two and a quarter bottles of Reuzel Aftershave, the regular kind, not the "Wood & Spice".
The older bottles are (and always were) somewhat cloudy, and I assumed that's how it's supposed to look. The newest bottle is the same colour but clear. As near as I can tell, the scent is the same, which I love. The lists of ingredients are identical.
Is the new clear stuff a slightly different formula, or is the cloudiness a result of age, or what?
I can send a side-by-side photo of the two if you're interested.

The cloudiness is the result of an ingredient that we just recently were able to remove, that changes color when exposed to heat. This is where you get the color difference from. The products are totally safe to use and in the future you will not receive any that are cloudy.

Evidently they misunderstood what I was getting at, and they have not updated the labels.

Oh yeah - Reuzel is in my Top 5 Favourite Aftershaves, and is also in the category of "Products I Never Want to Run Out Of".

Looks like it's 3.3 oz for $10, so around $3.33 per ounce. At the standard 4oz, it would then be $13.32. that's a good price for a splash. Typical pricing, if memory serves me, is $15-25 for 4oz for most brands. Even the budget champ, Stirling, is a few cents more expensive. Wow.

A salon where I once got a haircut peddles those and I smelled the sample as well as put a tad on my arm. The drydown smells like rubber. Pass.

FWIW, The Reuzel hair tonic has an identical scent.
My barber gave me a scalp rub with it one time, and it was that scent that made me want to get the aftershave.
Unfortunately I don't remember exactly if the hair stuff was the blue "hair tonic", or the amber "grooming tonic".
