Restoring options for a Mid 30's NEW

This is a antique store find that after cleaning has given me amazing shaves... Wow what a great razor! Much better than I expected. It has earned a place in my permanent rotation at this point.

As you can see it is in fairly rough shape and isn't a good candidate for a full restoration.

What are good options to improve its cosmetic condition without spending a fortune? Appreciate any advice.

replate is probably the only option at this point.

Another option is to appreciate your NEW exactly the way it is. Think of its condition as battle scars and consider where it has been, who owned it previously, and how it has been treated. Now, you come along and love it for its simple intended purpose, a great shave. Whatever you decide to do, that little razor is going to love you back every time you use it.

I got mine replated. Worth every penny.

If it's a permanent addition to the rotation, battle scars don't appeal and you really want it looking good then it does look like a replate is needed. I don't know about prices in the USA but I'm guessing if you shop around then it's possible to get plated in Nickel for around $30?

You'd have to balance that $30 against the cost of cleaning materials and the value of the time & effort spent cleaning, buffing and polishing when in all likelihood, given the condition of the razor, it's not going to be looking nearly as pristine as a replate - albeit in nickel.

In my opinion though there's nothing wrong with having a beat up old workhorse that's paid it's dues in the rotation

could be tough to hammer out as I'm not sure if the inside of the handle is hallow down that far, or even accessible...might be able to mill it off, but I'm not sure. if you don't mind, you could find a different handle in better shape to just replace it, then get it sent out for replating.

This. I scored this exact razor a couple of weeks ago. It's in a little bit better condition but it shaves great. I haven't used another razor since getting it. I'm not going to do a thing to it except clean it.

The dent in the handle isn't that big a deal.  It could be taken out or at least reduced, but I don't see a reason to do that.  The dent is part of the character of the razor.

You can always polish that razor, doing so will take the rest of the gold off the cap.  The baseplate can be polished to shiny brass...  Polishing the cap can take you to shiny copper. Both the brass and the copper will want to tarnish and patina again, but if it's a razor you use, keeping it from tarnishing too much or rapidly isn't that hard.

There's always other options.  Not my picture but one I kind of like.

Congrats on your NEW SC! Those are a little harder to find compared to the LC. After 1 year, I just got mine plated by Razorplate.com. I'm very happy with the nickel finish.
