So...as many may know, I am an office manager at a fireplace company. Aside from running the service aspect of the company, my job duties also include refurbishing wood stoves, plasma cutting steel accessories, and stock/warehouse maintenance.

Yesterday, my boss dug out a 100 year old, cast iron, pot belly stove that he wanted put in the showroom for decorative purposes. The stove had loads of character, but even more rust.

So I asked the boss if I could please spend some time with it before we put it in my showroom as a decoration. It looked bad covered in rust, but I knew I could make the cast iron glow and the pewter shine.

He agreed, so I grabbed my wire brushes and wheels and went to work.

Eight hours later, and here are the before and after shots...

Before--you can see the rust and drab, dull haze over the pewter and iron. It looked like crap...

All the rust is gone, the pewter is blindingly shiny, and the newly raw cast iron has a warm glow that can only come from a hundred years of heat cycles.

I'm really happy with how it came out, and the boss is pretty impressed as well, which is always a good thing...

Anyhow...it's not a razor but definitely a restoration I am proud of...

Great job on that restoration, Chris. Does this mean you'll be getting a bonus or raise? Smile

That's an amazing transformation! I think it will look great in the show room, but I think it would look even better in my house! Nice work!

I seriously doubt it. It was a "volunteer" job, meaning the boss was gonna display it all rusty and I basically had to beg to be allowed to spend that kind of time on it. He wasn't having it at first, despite being THRILLED with the results...

Probably the only real benefit is that the next time I say, "Can I please clean that up before we display it?" He will likely give the go ahead without hesitation...

That and I get to take credit every time someone asks about it...

Wow.

The old wood burner at the hunting camp we went to as a kid looked like that a little bit. The before picture at least.

Impressive transformation!
