I am finding these stories interesting folks.  Thank you for sharing.

I know in my neck of the woods (Lancaster, PA) there was a sizeable group of immigrants who practiced mysticism (folk magic) in the early history of our state.  When William Penn (namesake of Pennsylvania) took a trip to Germany between 1671-1677, he spoke openly about the religious tolerance of his settlement in America and helped large groups of Germans migrate to the West of Philladelphia (Berks, Lancaster and York County).  This group in turn brought with them religious dissenters such as Old Order Mennonites, Ephrata Cloisters, Brethren, and Amish.  Many who practiced something that became known as Pow-Wow or the use of mystical European spells.

Fast forward to modern times and we can still see signs of this witchcraft in my area.  Hex signs are a prime example.  Last year my wife was visiting the farm of the plain family in the valley below my house and the wife talked about how her parents are still active practitioners of this form of magic and they no longer speak.

I learned that my house used to serve as a magistrate and thus was a meeting place for my community.  I do think that the currents of this history run into my home and that may be a source of the issues I experienced.

Interesting!

Marko, the apparition you saw may have been of a previous soldier who fell asleep on guard duty. :-)

Yup, the military breaks you down to build you up into what they want. I blamed the high carb diet on what they wanted us to do. That takes fuel and protein isn't fuel unless one is starving and has run out of fat reserves. Look at pictures of the holocaust victims to see the result of people using protein for fuel.

Good point - later that morning when the platoon was breaking down the harbour and getting ready to move out, a gunshot broke the morning silence and as we all looked for the source all eyes turned on one guy standing there with his weapon in his hands and a look of horror on his face. As you likely know, a loaded weapon within the harbour is a no no. Not good. This particular person went on to tragically pass away as the co-pilot of one of two C-130s that came into contact during a low level formation flying exercise a few years later. Two crews lost, 22 airmen.

I have three stories. Two of them aren't mine.

One day, while my sister and I were at school my grandmother was doing her usual housecleaning. Swept and mopped the kitchen, vacuumed the living room, dusted. She was getting ready to sit down when noticed there was a big dirt pile on the kitchen floor. Years later, my uncle, her first born son, was murdered. She said that every night when she went to bed, she would feel the bed on her side sink down like someone was sitting down. She also said that she would smell the cigarettes my uncle would smoke. This went on for two years until she passed away. Which leads me to my story.

My grandmother had been in the hospital for two weeks from complications from falling down and being on blood thinners. She was doing good. No one really thought she would pass away, heck 30 minutes before she passed away she was talking to my younger cousin, Jen. I was at home, doing my online math class for college, and my other younger cousin, Heather, was just hanging out at our house waiting for me to get done. My uncle came by to pick up Heather to go see our grandma, and he received a phone call saying that my grandma had died. He tried to tell us, but we couldn't understand him because he was crying. I thought maybe something had gone wrong and they had to take her into surgery or something. There was no way my grandma was dead. So I said I would go to the hospital and see her later. I spent the rest of the day working on my online classes, not knowing what happened. When they got back, and I found out happened I spent the next several hours bawling. I had lost my best friend, my savior, my protector. I was devastated, and I felt like a complete and total a-hole because I didn't go to the hospital and say goodbye. Luckily my aunt and Heather decided that they would leave me and my grandpa alone to grieve. It wasn't until a week later that the weirdest thing happened. Heather was at the house, and her mom was doing some shopping for me and grandfather, when we received the weirdest call. It was from the hospital that my grandmother had been in, I didn't pick up the phone because I wasn't the one making all the decisions, in fact all my input was ignored. So the call went to the answering machine, no body said anything all we heard was what sounded like the beeping of a heart monitor. This went on for a minute, and then it stopped. I never deleted that message and kept it for as long as the machine lived. It died a week later. I don't know how to explain what happened. I seriously hope it wasn't a cruel joke on the part of a hospital worker. And I don't know how they would have gotten our phone number, my aunt and uncles made sure they got all the information first and then filtered it through to me and my grandpa.
