RazoRock Mamba .70 base plate in the works..

Duly noted but, that’s not the point. You are in theory looking for a razor that can give you the feel of the Mamba yet, the efficiency of an open comb razor as in giving a bit more blade reveal. In no way was the poster comparing them both in physics or dynamics of the razors build. The Ascension gives you a smooth feeling shave that assimilates the RR Mamba but with a much higher degree of efficiency and blade feel. And still it feels just as easy going as the RR Mamba. I should know, I own them both myself....

The Ascension doesn’t create a huge amount of gap but, because of the extreme curvature it enables it to increase or decrease blade reveal with a simple small turn left or right of the handle. Gap is being created ever so slightly but not in huge increments. Just enough to give a bit more positive blade exposure and feel.

Here's a shot of the Mamba and a RR SLOC. I've read all you penned about the Ascension here and one other forum. Will likely buy one at some point. But I would rather see an OC Mamba that shaves like a SLOC.

I'm not a machinist but it seems a base close to the SLOC profile could work on the Mamba top plate... Yeah I know it ain't gonna happen. I'm just pitching for a SLOC in something besides potmetal!

Well today I shaved with the Mamba 70 and I have to say it’s a nice step up in efficiency compared to the Mamba and .68 GC while still being really smooth. My lather was crap today and managed to get a good shave with the stock Ti Halo handle and I have no complaints about it.

I shaved with the mamba .70 yesterday and I can say that it’s definitely a step up from the original mamba in terms of efficiency. This is really what the original mamba should have been as the original was far too mild for many people.

The .70 mamba is just as comfortable and can serve as an ideal daily driver for most shavers. I however feel that even the new .70 mamba may be just a touch too mild for me which is unfortunate.

A .84/.86 mamba would have been a holy grail razor for me. I doubt the guys over at razorock will ever release a new even more aggressive base but a man can hope.

What I can say is that the handle is really well made and feels great in my hands when shaving. The added travel pouch was a nice touch as well.

Overall, this is an improvement over the original but i think many shavers would have wanted an even more aggressive version of this razor to be the end all be all of razors. It could have easily become my holy grail razor with a larger blade gap. Everything else is pretty much perfect: price, build quality, finish, etc.

I shaved with the Mamba 70 for the first time today. Put a once-used Rapira Platinum Lux blade in, used my stainless HD handle, Oleo Jacmel soap.

The result was one of the best shaves of my life. Three passes, no cleanup. BBS without issues, irritation, nicks, weepers or anything else undesirable.

The reality is that to get this shave, I had to give up a touch of smoothness compared with the Mamba 55. The only downside to this razor is that it was shipped with the Titanium handle...honestly...the finish doesn't match, the weight distribution isn't quite right, and it is too long.

Otherwise, this is the razor that can put the Fatip Gentile out of business. No it isn't as smooth as the Gentile (then again, no other razor I have ever used is), but it delivers a similar shave with even less threat of hurting oneself and without the pain of having to adjust the blade. And for those who have experience with Fatip, the head geometry of the Mamba allows for an almost identical shaving angle. My Fatip Gentile will likely go unused from here on out.

What I do realize is that all 4 of my Razorock Razors are amazing. So much so, that I will keep all 4 in the rotation. They all deliver amazing shaves.

One last word....if the Mamba 70 or GC 84 are too mild for you, I suggest you go for a Mühle R41 or a Fatip OC Mk1. I find these razors plenty efficient, but they don't satisfy the itch for a bare blade being dragged across the face. To me, that is a feature, not a bug. Bug as always, YMMV.

Since you have both the GC84 and Mamba 70....
Which of the 2 is the most efficient?  Are they equally as smooth for a quick shave with little attention (daily driver) or would your rate one of the 2 better for that?  I have the GC.68 and .84, and I like them both.  The .84 is definitely more efficient.  I also have the original Mamba, but feel it is way too mild.  I am contemplating adding the Mamba 70 to my collection.  Look forward to your feedback.

So this is a tricky question and even trickier answer...IMO, if we define "efficient" as the ability of the razor to remove as much hair as possible with as few passes/strokes as possible, then the Mamba70 is more "efficient". If we define "efficient" as the characteristic of the razor to be aggressive and blade forward, then the GC84 is more "efficient".

I personally define efficiency as the former...namely how much hair the razor removes with as few strokes as possible. And I believe the Mamba70 ist the most efficient of the Mambas/GCs. That said, both the GC84 and M70 are equally smooth. The GC68 is smoother than either, and the M55 is the smoothest of them all (using the same blades across all razors). The M70 is super safe and doesn't feel like it'll hurt me at all...the GC84 on the other hand, thanks to its substantial gap, has bitten me once or twice when I rushed through my shave and got careless. I don't think the M70 will do that based on my impression off the first shave.

Where I could really tell the efficiency of the M70 is under my chin on the neck where I often have trouble getting really close without drawing blood. The M70 handled that like a champ and it was 100% BBS in that area without touch-up and I never felt like I might hurt myself.

So in terms of efficiency: M70 > GC84 > GC68 > M55. In terms of agressiveness/harshness: GC84 > M70 > GC68 >M55.

ha 1st shave with mamba .70 today. as far as i'm concerned, it blew both gc out of the water. for me it was much smoother and more efficient the the .86. will be alternating between this and the cb karve.

Thanks for this great response. Very thorough comparison of the GC.84 vs the Mamba.70. I agree with your rankings. The GC.68 and Mamba.55 are very smooth and easy to use but require a lot of passes, touch-up and buffing to get a BBS. They are both great for new traditional shavers and for super quick shaves. I too have been bitten a couple of time by the GC.84, when going for a super quick shave!

I shaved with the M70 yesterday and M55 today. While the M70 is fantastic, the smoothness of the M55 is hard to beat. I will have both in my rotation of 4 razors...they are both that good.
