Raw Shaving RS10

I tried the RS-10 with a Feather tonight and experienced something I wasn’t quite expecting.

I started with the mild plate and got the skin-sucking effect I crave in razors like a Blackbird, Timeless and Rex Ambassador. The first two passes of the shave were heavenly as a result.

I usually finish after two passes but thought, as I’m not going to have much chance to shave in the next 48 hours, that I’d do a third pass with the aggressive plate.

I was extremely surprised that third pass felt significantly smoother than the first two. The razor just glided across my face.

I finally get it - this razor isn’t over-hyped in the slightest and is firmly up there with the best razors in my collection. It’s truly sublime.

Switched back to my SS RS10 for a Christmas Eve shave. Went back to a Feather blade and got a very rewarding smooth,efficient shave. Merry Christmas everyone.

Just got mine with both plates!! What blades would you gents recommend for use in each type of plate?

I only recently acquired the RAW RS-10. To date I only used Feather and Astra Green blades. The Astra was very smooth but the Feather blade in the mild base plate was extremely smooth with very little blade feel.

I have found the Feather to be very smooth with the best efficiency. Polsilver and Astra's were smooth but not as efficient for me.

Thanks to LOOT I got to try a Wolfman WR2 1.25 gap. I compared it to my RS10 with the aggressive plate.

WTG Since the Wolfie was a Dual comb I did a couple of strokes with the OC side but noticed a lot more blade feel than I am used to with my RS10 so I switched to the SB side. There was still a little more blade feel still but less then OC. Both razors took down 36 hours of growth without any problem and both were very smooth.
Second pass
XTG Both Razors were extremely smooth with this pass and there was slightly more blade feel with the WR2. Rinse and feel the Wolfie was near BBS except for a small area under my jawline and the RS10 had 2 spots under my jawline and near the Adam’s Apple.
Third pass
ATG Both Razors handled ATG with smoothness and no chatter giving me a true BBS shave
The RS10 has a wonderful finish but the Wolfman is still one step up, it is like looking into a mirror. The RS10 has slightly less blade feel but the Wolfman was a step up in efficiency. Both of these razors gave me a wonderful irritation free shave. If you like a little blade feel the Wolfman wins and if efficiency is your bottom line the Wolfman was a winner by a hair or 2, but if you like a smooth shave with little blade feel then the RS10 is the way to go. I loved both razors but unfortunately I have to send the Wolfman back.

I have the WR2 1.25 DC and the RS-10 in stainless steel. That comparison was spot on from what I have been able to do. I have not shaved with them at the same time but I did use the WR2 on the shave after the RS-10. Love both of these razors but the WR2 1.25 is in a class all it’s own. I only use the A plate with the RS-10 and to me, it’s not aggressive at all. I use Feather blades in both razors and they are both amazing but the WR2 is just nirvana for me on the DE side of things. I have used the Paradigm SE and Vector for my last 2 shaves so back to the WR2 Friday with one of the new Grooming Dept soaps being delivered tomorrow. I’m very interested in hearing someone’s impression of the titanium RS-10.

I owned the RS10 TI, RS10, SS& RS18. WR2 1.15 DC SS. I agree of your assessment. The RS razors are very nice shavers but the WR2 is in another class of manufacturing and shave. The differences are not great but definitely noticable. The RS10 Ti is nice a little smoother than the SS because of the weight but in my opinion not worth $550 when a WR2 Ti is around $415 and a Paradigm SE is $395. The good thing is we all have great choices and works better for one will be different for another

I was torn about getting the titanium RS-10 when it was offered to me by Avi and I passed and I am on the list for it now but don’t know if I want it now that James has started opening up for titanium models. I
might try for a titanium WR1 DC next instead of the titanium RS-10. Oh, the decisions these days!!!!!
