I have. It’s not even close...GD wins hands down..The reason you “forgot about it” is it’s just OK..not great. Believe me, you won’t be forgetting about your GD..You’ll be looking forward to using it before and during EVERY shave...

I like every Castle Forbes product I've owned, The Pre-Shave included.  It softens and hydrates the beard, and it is water soluble, totally non-oily or greasy, and leaves no residue on anything.  However, the GDept pre-shaves are unparalleled IME, whether V1 or V2.  For me, the acid test of a pre-shave is What kind of shape does my skin wind up in, and how much improvement does the pre-shave make?  On that basis, whatever exactly it is that the GDept pre-shave does works wonders for me.  I do think the Castle Forbes might be a more convenient traveller, but I have never seen it in less than 125ml size, so it is a no-go for carry-ons.  The CF product is also far more expensive, even allowing for size.

If you are happy with the CF pre-shave, then by all means use it.  But if you are buying for whatever reason, then maybe take a walk on the wild side and burn 16 bucks on a jar of GDept pre-shave.  Mohammad even throws in free shipping, so it is pretty hard to go wrong.

I’m thrilled to hear this. Not a first time flyer for GD - I’ve got half a dozen of their soaps, so you are preaching to the choir. Many thanks.

That’s just how I want it. Thanks indeed.

I really like the GD as well. I have the unscented with coolant. I add some of PAA Chel gel and it really provides a long-lasting cool after the shave. Lasts for several hours for me. That synthetic menthol is pretty great stuff. It doesn't slam you in the face and irritate your eyes like M-bomb. I've found that two drops of M-bomb and about a quarter tsp of Chel in my GD provide that cool aftershave feeling I like. All the best!

Enjoy your shaves,

Jeff

No PAA cube was mentioned here

Without doubt from experience with several materials on the market, the smoother and better result for me was obtained using a cube.
Even my wife took her for a ride and adopted her warmly  Smile

After experimenting with all pre-shave products currently available, I ended my search. Grooming Dept is on another league, no comparison with the rest. I use it on every shave now. Not only works great, but It stays on all 3 passes and even provides some post shave feel of smoothness and no irritation. Amazing!

I’ve started reapplying a small bit of the GD Pre before my final ATG pass...makes a HUGE difference in comfort and effectiveness for me....

It’s no surprise that it wasn’t mentioned here...The performance of PAA isn’t even close to GD. Not in the same league....I’ve tried it...
GD has redefined the pre-shave category with this one....PAA among others has been left in the dust....
Advice...Give some GD Pre to your wife.....she’ll immediately and happily give your PAA back to you.....But...unfortunately....then you’ll be stuck with it...

I've no idea why this never occurred to me. I just reapplied before ATG pass and it was fantastic. Thanks for the tip that was at my fingertips the whole time.

I recently acquired a couple of tubs of GD’s V2 formula preshave. It’s excellent. I’m not sure I can tell the difference between V1 and V2 though but I do like the unscented. I got spa as well. Nice scent. Given that you need such a tiny amount to be effective, even if you apply before all three passes, a single tub will last a long time.

I used the GD preshave with a The Holy Black Verdant soap yesterday  Happy2
