I have found lately when I read any articles written by just journalist - it is basically just a rehash of a google search - no depth or actual technical knowledge. Most of the magazines are shallow or at best - props to their advertisers. You have to go to trade journals or specific web sites (like a technical organization) to get quality material.

Obviously the writer wants to turn you off of wet shaving and stick with expensive carts. Why not pick a Parker, Merkur, or similar razor for the comparison? My guess is the later doesn't advertise with Popular Mechanics.

Why? How many Razor reviews has Popular Mechanics done in its history? Why would anyone trust it now. Do you go to hmm, Sharpologist to get reviews of Socket Wrenches?

What's the difference. Go to a steak house to order steak. Go to a Fish house to order Fish. ... Wink

Well gosh, don't I feel stupid now, thanks

Not sure why. I dont order pizza at a steakhouse. Why would you expect a razor review in this magazine? Its non-sequitor, ???

I got rid of my Popular Mechanics subscription about 10 years go. Popular Science 8 years ago. National Geographic about 4 years ago. I agree that most magazines have been so dumbed-down at this point that I am afraid that I would hurt the IQ of my fecal matter if I wiped my behind with their pages. Utter drivel and this article just makes me smile to think of all of the money and time I have saved over the year by getting rid of subscriptions to stuff like this.

I do also think that this is a paid advert for Schick and Gillette posing as a real article.

Media... Tv, radio, print... Make all their money from advertising. Everything is going to have a selling angle to it because that brings in the revenue and keeps the media outlet alive.

I don’t think the issue here is that anyone expected or wanted Popular Mechanics to do a razor review. The way I see it, the issue is that since they decided to go ahead and do one, they could have at least taken a closer look at what is available in the field and written about their findings.

Instead, they didn’t even scratch the surface. This will probably just reinforce the notion that the vast majority of their readers already have. Basically: “Looks like single-use and cartridge razors are virtually the only option available, so I’m just going to keep using them.”

Well said Matthew (Matsilainen). I don't think (actually I know) that Marko wasn't reading the magazine for the purpose of getting a razor review. That should be pretty obvious given the fact that he participates in this forum.

has anyone tried emailing the magazine and/or the author? if not, maybe I'll try to reach out to see what they say. who knows, maybe they'll want to interview the forum..

I think it's ludicrous that he went from $8-10 razors up to $400..nothing in between there from the vintage side of things that can really give good shaves.
