Probably because many men sport beards nowadays. The CVS and Walgreens drugstores near me dropped the shaving soaps and Van Der Hagen razors. They replaced them, and many other items, with beard grooming products, facial scrubs and other men's cosmetics.

Like dominicr said, we don't really know how fast the traditional shaving market is growing. The yearly growth as a percentage is likely much less than in the past. Had that exponential growth continued, every single man on Earth would be an old-school wetshaver now. The huge variety of wetshaving products now sold online indicates that the market is still expanding, and probably substantial.

Traditional wetshaving really took off during the Great Recession, when the marketplace became very cost sensitive. When guys found out they could have little luxury along with a greatly decreased cost, the deal was sealed. The current shelter-in-place induced downturn, likely to be both sharp and brief, could well make new converts out of those wishing to both save money and get great shaves.

Being new to traditional wet shaving, reading the forums and watching YouTube videos is fun but can be overwhelming. The whole saving money point is moot when you start adding up the cost of equipment, soaps and accessories. Of course, no one is obligated to buy all the gadgetry but hey, who doesn’t like the cool stuff!

Many guys don’t have the time for a leisurely shave and just look it as a necessary evil. Me, I’m retired I got time!
