I honestly struggle to tell the difference between the two soaps on a side by side smell test. If I ever mixed up the lids I don't think I would be able to say for sure which was which. The most dominant scent I get from the soaps is close to Probert's Saddle Soap. I discussed this with James the OSP and apart from saying that others considered it adequately scented he admitted there might be some batch variation. He didn't offer to send me a replacement that contained scent, however. I think its just a factor of Eurpopean soaps generally being more mildly scented than North American soaps. Obviously there are some notable exceptions like Meisner Tremonia. Obviously this all just my opinion and I know that others will have had differing experiences. I like the soap I use to, at the very least, have the fragrance that the maker represents them as having.

I have had a similar experience with lack of scent. I've got two of these soaps -- sandalwood and fougere. I also have difficulty telling them apart because they are so mildly scented. It's too bad because the performance is absolutely terrific.

The soaps from Phoenix and Beau, according to the reviews, should be, quality wise, on par with OSP's. But I've decided to hold it until the end of next month as they have announced a couple of scents that might be very interesting, "Denali" (menthol) and "Albion" (unknown). They have an attractive sample pack available, so I'll wait for those two scents to be added to their inventory, and this way, get my hands on all of their scents  Big Grin . That should help me making my mind up, although that new "Denali" and the new "Spitfire" sound like very good summer and winter time propositions.
Thanks everyone for your help  Winking

Wise man, good choice.

Don't let is sway you from trying OSP though because they are still fantastic performing soaps Smile

I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on Phoenix and Beau when you've tried some. Also be interested to hear your thoughts on OSP when you try it too.

I'll keep them in my sights and will fire on them as soon as I hear that the scents have improved, because just today I read a fellow forum member of "Foroafeitado" in the SOTD section, who said he had kept only the "Neroli" scent and got rid of the other two he had purchased previously, as all of the others were dull.

You bet you'll hear them. In fact, as soon as I have a gap I'll upload a couple of reviews of European soaps with top performance and nice scent Wink.

What about osp fougere? How's that scent?

I had/have some OSP samples I bought from Connaught in the UK. Their Sandalwood is the best there is IMO as it's a true Sandalwood and not some bizarre offshoot. However, their Orange Patchouli is for me simply mesmerizing. The scent is captivating to my nose. That said, I have read a paltry few reviews on other forums saying that OSP is fantastic, but lacked perhaps a little slickness to make it a Top Tier soap. I can't make up my mind on that as I don't have a full tub to evaluate, only the mini sample(s). I get good slickness, but cannot state with alacrity that I would say super slick. What sayeth those who have used it?

The only one I have is the Orange/Patchouli and it's Ok. Definitely not one that I get excited to use due to the scent. Performance is great though
