Opinions, for a friend

I would also keep an eye out for a used Rockwell 6S.  I have seen used stainless steel 6S's priced anywhere from $50 to $70.  It is a 3-piece but adjustable.  Personally, the 6S with base plate #4 is a great smooth option for me.

I was going to recommend the same or even a 6C which would be cheaper yet. The adjustability will give him a chance to zero in on what works best for him and still be a 3 piece.

I third this recommendation. Reasonably priced, durable and great optionality if you get all three (6) base plates. Your friend would never need another razor

You know, The sad thing is I have a 6c with all the plates but forgot to let him try that. LOL. I guess when you have ... Wait, No such thing as too many... Sometimes you forget what you have.
The Overlander is a nice option but I'm not sure he want to go Brass. I like the brass but I think he is more into shinny. New guys .
Ray, I will look into the Parker semi-slant. Its a good option. He liked the B plate on my Karve but I think its because he just doesn't want to try for a closer shave.
Plus the G.C. .68. I have the Lupo 68.

Parker is a solid choice. They do have the Overlander in Stainless, but it jumps out of the desired price range to around $178. And it still wouldn't be shiny as Chris doesn't do polished razors (and I like shiny, too!!!). I also have the 6C and it is a solid choice as well.

This is the correct answer. Although as dtownvino said, the DE89 or one of its many clones like the Maggard V3 is a great low cost shaver. I've been using mine a lot lately. If they made one in SS I would be all over that.

This is the correct answer. Although as dtownvino said, the DE89 or one of its many clones like the Maggard V3 is a great low cost shaver. I've been using mine a lot lately. If they made one in SS I would be all over that.

Right, how could I forget the DE89? That’s the razor that got me started.
