I deleted most of the stuff I had on Photobucket before they went full retard thankfully.

They were seriously over doing it with ads, crap popping up all over, taking the mouse focus, and generally being greasy all around.

It's sad that they didn't evolve along with the rest of the internet. Gradually.

Trying to hold people hostage in a sense by being nuclear is pretty much the end of their story in my opinion. No matter how much they try and walk this thing back the damage has been done. Countless people who may have never heard of them before just had a bad first impression in the last few days.

That's pretty crummy that Photobucket decided to take this tactic to generate revenue.  They are basically holding folk's pictures hostage?  Are you able to access your pictures after paying what I consider an exorbitant fee?  Or, is this like Ransomware where you pay thinking you can get your stuff back, only to find out that you just got scammed?(I know that what Photobucket is doing is not technically Ransomware)

I have an imgur account and also appreciate the way that Andrew (andrewjs18) has DFS set up to use imgur for our pictures here.  All of the picts that I have on my free imgur account are backed up elsewhere, too.  Enough cannot be said about backing up your stuff and making sure at least one copy is offsite/"in the cloud."

Google Drive starts you out with 15GB of free Google online storage.  That's quite a few picts, especially if you shrink them down a bit.  They also offer premium service with larger capacities.

Google Photos offers unlimited(?*) storage space if you have this app installed. It's available though Google Play and Apple App Store.

I don't have any affiliation with any of the above services.  I'm just trying to suggest some fairly simple solutions for those looking for options.

*I'm not sure that any service is truly unlimited. This looks unlimited to my eyes.

Photobucket isn't holding photo's hostage. You can download them with no problem, though I have concern about their longevity. The only service they disconnected is third party linking which allowed me to show pics on DFS and other places. Of course, that is the only thing I used them for.

I'm really not upset with them. They tried to become profitable by offering products, though that wasn't enough. I think they let their software get stretched well beyond its ability before taking action and now have reacted from a place of panic and have way overpriced the new offering ($399 per year).

I also take responsibility. I try to avoid free sites for anything important as it makes it harder for them to make a profit, then things like this happen.

Blade4vor and some other folks in this thread have made great suggestions for alternatives.

Paid Photobucket account holders will be able to link until December 2018. Time to look for a new host. What is out there that lets you use folders and sub-folders like Photobucket?

I don't know about sub-albums, but imgur lets you create albums.

MS Office 365 allows this, though it's overkill unless you need some of the other services, which you have to purchase.

Imageshack seems to be very good. I have been with them for over three years, now and I have had no issues.

Google.

Except, well they're Google...

If you integrate Google Photos with Google Drive it makes it easier to manage and file folders.

Not gonna lie, I don't trust Google. They're ubiquitous. Not like they don't know everything about everyone already... My pictures just seem a little bit different than my email or browsing history...
