I have to amend this a bit.
I used it this morning and got quite a good shave, no irritation. Feather blade, 1-1/2 days growth. I think the key bit was the use of a very small amount of Pacific Shaving cream & lots of water, no brush, just trying to get the skin super slick. Audio & shave quality were much better than before. I'll have to try using it similarly with a GEM blade.
2nd shave with the Feather was also very good, 3rd slightly rougher, 4th lousy; I switched razors about 30 seconds in. PS cream worked better than Nivea, thickness definitely seems to be a disadvantage. This thing would probably work well with Cremo.
Tried it again with a GEM just now. I had to work a bit harder for a slightly less close shave, but not bad; no razor burn despite some repeated strokes. I'll see how long it lasts.
BTW, the methods I've seen on YouTube for de-spining GEMs (pulling the spine off with pliers & vise or two pairs of pliers) are rubbish. Easier & safer to hold it down by the cardboard wrapper near the edge of a counter, insert the tip of a pocket knife under the edge of the spine, & twist a bit. Popped right off.
