It's sharp and it cuts. I like it...
Northeast, USA
Shave No.2 with the Meteorite & used the medium plate for this shave. Used the same KC Gillette blade from the previous shave with Ethos Bergamotto doing the glide & slide honors for the razor. Again, a very comfortable shave with a smidge more efficiency while blade feel was minimal. However, I never made it to 3 full passes as I did with the mild plate. The uptick in cutting ability really took care of 2 days worth of whiskers within the first two passes, WTG & ATG. Technically yes, I did a third pass but, it was really just an extended buffing exercise to clear out stragglers and clean up the chin. No incidents of any kind and just a very smooth & clean finish that was BBS all around. Really an effortless shave that produced a quality shave result. As always, the Ethos was on point in the protection department and it provided an excellent barrier for the Meteorite to glide over the skin effortlessly. No dragging or skipping nor any chatter to be felt or heard. Comparison wise I’d say it felt close to a #3 on a Rex or somewhere between an RR Lupo .72 and the Wolfman Guerilla .84 only smoother than the Lupo and very close in smoothness to the Guerilla. Well, that’s my perception and I could be off somewhat but, that’s the realm in what I think the medium plate on the Meteorite brings to mind.

There has been talk that it looks very similar to another razor and I can see the similarities however, I don’t want to mention that nor touch on that topic until I’ve gone through my shaves with the whole kit. I’m solely going on the merit of the razors performance and the quality of it. When I round up my shaves with the Meteorite, I’ll give my full thoughts from A to Z in more detail of the overall experience. So far, so good….

I have used all three plates. Level 1 is mild and efficient. Level 3 steps up the blade feel and efficiency, but still feels quite comfortable. I would say level 3 has less blade feel than a Blackbird with a similar level of efficiency. Mine does not have a dimple in the bottome of the handle. I am quite satisfied with the M3teorite.

ewk Thanks for your thoughts on the 3 piece.

On the 3 piece, do they have an option to buy all the plates, or you just buy them separately? Usually there is an option with a slight discount if you get all the plates. Thanks

He had a code back here where he announced it that gave a discount when you got the set I think.

As Dave in KY said, there was an initial promotion where there was a very nice discount. I took advantage and got all 3 plates plus topcap/handle at the same time for $130. If I could only choose one plate, it would probably be 2, but I like having the more aggressive plate for shaving the solar panel. I hope the discount still applies.

Yeah, I got the stand too for $160 total with all 3 plates. I like having a stand but have to admit I find this one too bulky. I don't need something to hold razor blades too. Better than nothing though.

M3teorite razor arrived a day early, and I was able to complete an initial shave. The result was a solid BBS and performant shave experience. This might be the heaviest razor I have used. So it took a bit of adjustment to become fully acquainted. The largest issue was a mild sense of disconnectedness with the angle and applied force, as the mass of the razor seemed to dampen much of the feedback. The result was a few tiny weepers as I misjudged engagement at times. I also backed off from more aggressive strokes in the mustache area until additional runtime is achieved. Having said all of that, I believe labeling this plate as aggressive could be misleading. It was smooth and efficient overall, with no meaningful threat. I'm sure a few more sessions will result in a fully intuitive shave experience regarding engagement angle and applied force.

And no meaningful complaints or concerns with finish. I do see a slight depression in the center of the base of the handle, although it requires an angled alignment with lighting to really notice it. There are two other small details that were observed, but they seemingly have no impact on the shave:

  • The first involves the overall flatness of the handle base. The base of the handle seemed to be slightly rounded or maybe chamfered in spots. When standing the razor up on a flat surface, there is a slight vibrational wobble that can occur. It ultimately resolves to a still position and didn't seem to be an issue when I stood it up between passes. I had considered ordering the stand but was somewhat averse to its large footprint, and the tuck holder would go unused. I would be interested in a more traditional stand if it was made available.
  • The second detail centered on the amount of angular play between the head thread post and the handle, during assembly. It was not enough to take it off the threads themselves or interfere with assembly, but it was noticeable. However, it was completely snug and secure when fully tightened. Maybe it is by design to minimize mis-alignment when starting to assemble the two pieces.

None of these items are overly concerning, and I look forward to additional shaves with the "aggressive" plate. I might even be interested in a four "comet tail" plate (Just alluding to the iconographic designation on each plate that communicates what level it is)
