I usually prefer to just sip directly rather than using a straw, but I guess the pot is just too big and heavy for that.

Perhaps we should go back to the ancient practice of using straws make from gold and silver. That would make them so valuable that no one would ever throw one in the trash.

Years ago, disposable straws were made of paper, which meant they were biodegradable. Then along came the plastic straws. They are so inexpensive that few people reuse them and the plastic takes decades to break down in a landfill. If they get into waterways, plastic straws are potentially hazardous to aquatic animals.

You can purchase straws made of stainless steel. However, some say that these are bad for the environment as it takes as much energy to make one metal straw as it does 90 plastic straws. To make a metal straw environmentally beneficial, it has to be used more than 90 times.

My wife likes using straws, but I do not. Unfortunately, when a straw is included with my drink, it probably ends up in the trash, even if I never use it.

You can decline to be served a straw in many restaurants and bars.

Glass used to be popular for at home.  Difficult to do glass on the road.

I don’t think I have ever drank beer with a straw.  I prefer my own beer; rather than communal beer.

I think they will be made of something else soon.  Just not enough $$ yet to solve the problem because plastic is cheap upfront.  A lot of needless waste.

I carry a stainless straw with me to cafes and such. It keeps the coffee out of my 'stache.
I had to saw it down to about the length of a pencil for convenience.

In restaurants and fast-food places I'm seeing a lot of paper straws now. Much better made than the original paper straws.
We could be Heroes, just for one day.
