Occam's razor

I really like the shave I'm getting, and hope to make it my daily driver, but I have to do something about the handle.

I have a water softener due to hard well water, and it makes everything extra slick, including the handle of this razor. I tried the best I could to dry my hands and the razor between rinses, but inevitably, it would get wet and I had a hard time keeping a grip on it.

In fact, I had two slips that I don't know how I didn't slice my face off.

But that's a problem for ME and my situation, not really a knock on the razor. Just for me, some knurling would be helpful. I'm looking at other solutions because I am enjoying the shave using the moderate head and pro guard blades.

I'm not one to rotate razors, and have been hoping since Kickstarter that this my be 'the one'.

what about trying to throw some rubber washers over the handle for added grip?

You might also consider coating it with Plasti Dip or something similar. Just another idea.

(Another simple trick worth trying: Rub your thumbs and fingertips rather forcefully against the stainless steel handle when rinsing the razor between passes or strokes. This sometimes helps with the grip, I think. There are stainless steel “bar soaps” for chefs to use to remove odors from their hands, and I wonder if this procedure has a somewhat similar effect.)

The handle is a non-starter for me.

Have you tried rubbing your fingers on an alum block for extra grip? About the only thing that stuff is good for if you ask me.

Round 4

Another really good shave. Not much stubble since yesterdays shave was very close but comfy. The 5 o'clock shadow did not show itself until about 6-7pm today. 2nd time use with the Proline blade and the shave went without a single issue. An ATG pass pretty much restored the BBS and just a minor touch and buff on the chin and both jaw lines. Long steady strokes again as in the previous shave that produced no nics, cuts or weepers. No irritation and not a lot of work with maneuvering the razor as I just simply did some skin stretching to get to the tougher spots.

The new grip that I'm using helps with moving around and not feeling awkward in the hands. Not the most natural shave grip, but comfortable and gets the job done. So now 4 shaves down, with 2 shaves that were not so easy to get and work. And 2 shaves that have been very nice, close and comfortable. The grip, the hybrid technique and the Proline blade have combined to give 2 very good shaves that have been long lasting and easy to get. 4 down, 3 more to go. The next shave I'm dropping in a guarded blade, the KAI ProTouch MG Pink. This blade works great in taming aggressive feeling razors that give a bit too harsh feel with an unguarded AC type blade. I believe it will give as smooth a shave as the Proline. Looking forward to it....

had another couple of shaves with it; its very comfortable. i use the one-dot head and a feather proguard as the regular load.

regarding the handle, after shaving at the sink i wondered how it would do it in the shower. the sides are slippy when fully wet in that environment. I shaved a couple of strips from my glow in the dark grip tape and put them on the sides and no more slippy problems. I do this to other razors as well, basically any handles that don't have grooves, ridges or stipling. i know i would get thoroughly reamed if i admitted this on another forum, but i put that same glow in the dark grip tape on my oneblade genesis as well as my vision 2k...

as far as the occam's goes, i'm definitely selling my rx as it doesn't do anything better for me in comparison.

Round #5

Just finished my 5th shave with the Occam's and used a twice used KAI MG ProTouch Pink blade with the 3 dot head. Also decided to use the Grooming Dept. Voyage vegan soap for this one.

All I can say is it was the best shave so far yet with this razor. The KAI ProTouch is an excellent blade that NO ONE seems to talk about. A 2 pass, no touch ups or buffing. Just an excellent shave with a wonderful post shave feel and finish. Good with the Feather Super. Great with the Schick Proline. Excellent with the KAI ProTouch. This razor is starting to show it's true colors. I myself had doubts after the first 2 shaves. Glad that I did not stop there and post this thing on the "Bay".

All I can say gents is for those who have one, get to know it and try a couple of different blades. Don't give up on it yet. This just might be a Darkhorse in the making. It will pay off. Just put the time in and I believe it will surprise you. 5 down, 2 more to go......

Can't get a real good shot of blade gap & exposure. My picture skills suck....

Hopefully this pic shows more of the gap relative to the guard..... still a very smooth shaver.
