If you where looking to buy your first brand new slant which one would you pick and why?

I would probably go for the Merkur 37C mainly because of its lower price and stock availability.

I already have one. It's a Merkur 39C, also known as "Sledgehammer" due to its shape. I like the long handle and the weight of this razor.

Thanks for your answer Nick!

If/when the Ikon Shavecraft 102 slant is back in stock I would suggest getting this one. The 37C and 39C are excellent, but the Shavecraft is very special in being very smooth. The other Ikon slants are also very good, but a bit more aggressive and expensive.

Ikon shavecraft #102 slant is in stock now at the ikon website. I just received one in the mail a couple of days ago. I don't have a large enough sample of experience with it yet to give any meaningful feedback on it.

For a lower price it is hard to beat the Merkur. Expect to pay a premium for the Stealth Slant since they are harder to come by these days. The Shavecraft #102 is a great choice, probably one of the smoothest slants out there, apart from the Stealth which would be my number one choice. Nothing wrong with the Merkur, however, it is mildly aggressive, with great build quality typical of all Merkurs. I'd go for the 39C, since the added weight is a plus for slightly closer shave.

I still have my Merkur 37C. It is an affordable, intuitive slant that will give you great results. I still use the Merkur, but my go to DE razor (Slant or otherwise) is the Ikon Slant with the DLC coating. It's available. Pricey, but the Ikon slant is the razor that gives me the more efficient, smoothest, and closest shaves under most circumstances - and I have a very course beard. It did take some experimenting to dial in the the correct technique and because of its weight you really have to ensure you have a light touch. But this extra effort will soon reward you. I don't have the shavecraft. It has a good reputation for being effortless but also on the mild side. This isn't bad, but I prefer a more aggressive "regular" slant.

I have both ATT slant plates, the S1 and S2 on an Atlas handle. Have never tried another slant, but these are easily the best razors I have ever used, and the only ones I have used in months. I prefer the S1 to the S2, but only marginally. Both produce a spectacular shave, closed and comfortable every time.

The Shavecraft 102 slant is the best I have ever used. Extremely smooth and efficient.

The ATT S1 is the smoothest shaving slant that I have and very efficient. The Merkur 39C is a great buy if you are looking for something that won't break the bank, but it is a little less comfortable, and still efficient.
