I have the Lupo 95open comb, and said that one day I'd likely pick up the straight bar. Looks like it's probably a good thing that I waited now that there is a 1.27 mm straight bar base plate. I am definitely interested in picking one of these up, and I am curious to see how it compares to the Game Changer 1.05-P and even the 95 open comb. Again, there are no specs on the blade exposure other than that it is positive. It is also manufactured from Marine Grade 316L stainless steel.

Game Changer  :
At first was the .68 .
An addition of .16 of a mm later on brought
the .84 .
Between them ,midways, there was born
the .076 , .08 mm apart from both the .68 and
the .84

One would expect that next thing to come
would have been something .16 of a mm apart from the .84 ,which would have resulted in a 1.0 .
But no ,for some reason they added .05 to
make it 1.05 !

Lupo :

.72 and .95 have a difference of .23 mm
For some reason later on and minus .14 from
the .72 ,a .58 was born .So far ,so good .

...but here is where it starts the fun part,
about the new Lupo plate :
.95 + ( .23 + .14 ) - 0.05 = 1.27

Added the differences of .95 vs .72 and
.72 vs .58 ,would have led to a 1.32 .
But no ,for some reason they subtracted
this time .05 to make it 1.27 ...

There's definitely some kind of mathematical
pattern here ...

...And that's just a tiny ,small taste of what kind of thoughts
I'm getting into,as a futile resistance against
clicking " Confirm the order" ....

This here is a shaver, Gents. Honestly, I believed that RR with the Lupo line up was already a success with the available offerings before the .127 was offered this week. The Lupo offers efficiency, smoothness, ease of use, quality and affordability that is unmatched in western civilization. When I first saw the .127 announced I said to meself “naaa, this just isn’t required and Razorock just may have gone a bit to far” yet, the price is extremely affordable and I just took it up on a whim just to answer to myself, why?

The shave tonight, that’s why. I haven’t shaved since I ordered this version almost 4 days ago in anticipation. 2 passes and I dropped the mic. No touch ups, no buffing, no clean ups of any kind. Two nics from an obliterated blackhead and an obnoxious early pimple on the chin. Both were simply eradicated and I didn’t feel a thing. Just saw the two blood spots and said “Well I’ll be.” Alum & styptic pencil all under control with no blood flow in under 5 minutes. A smidge of heat on the left sideburn as I might have applied a bit to much pressure or a slight dry shave stroke ATG. The heat was gone before I poured me a Bourbon and sat on the porch to count and ponder the nightly stars above.

Fantastic shave minus the minor snafoos.

Smooth & gentle shave followers need not apply. Performance shavers that enjoy the feel of steel, those that want an efficient yet still comfortable shaver that requires a respectable touch or if you’re a one day a week shaver and want something that can take on thick, prickly, grizzled whiskers, this one is your huckleberry. Additionally, if you want an uber efficient shaver that still offers smoothness with better than average comfort for a one pass daily whisker decapitating mercenary, sign up at IB.

If the .95 SB/OC was or is your facial shaving limit in razor tool territory, this is going to be overkill for you, the .127 that is. How does it feel compared to the .95 Lupo? Quite close actually with very little trade off in comfort and ease of use. However, it requires one to be a bit more mindful as this size gap offers more whiskers to enter to be cut, so in turn it allows more skin as well to be exposed to the blade. This is not Ikon Tech territory where good technique, clear shave mindset and a nice dose of respect is required. That sort of discipline is not required at all for the Lupo .127.

Just don’t sleep on it. It’s got some teeth if you dare it. Great shaves to all….

Thanks for the post, I appreciate the info! I have the Lupo .95 open comb already and I love that. I do like blade feel and I find their razors to be definitely very smooth. I also recently picked up the Game Changer 1.05-P and that is very efficient and comfortable as well. I have some other hardware in larger blade gaps in open comb and straight bar, so I think this could very easily fall into my wheelhouse.

Ok, Gus. You know I like an aggressive razor. How does this compare in face feel to something like the R41 or the Stirling ST? The Lupo 95 was still on my wish list, so I haven't tried that one yet. I do enjoy the GC 1.05, but wished it had just a bit more efficiency. I'll probably pick up a Lupo top cap and both the 95 and 127 plates at some point anyway, but curious what your thoughts are compared to some of the more aggressive razors that I typically use.

gwsmallwood Garrett, I know you addressed your question to Gus, but I hope it is OK if I share my opinion as you and I have very similar taste respecting shaving the melon.

I have enjoyed the Lupo 95 OC but resisted the Gamechanger until release of the 1.05 plate recently. I find those two provide a very similar amount of efficiency in the end, but the Gamechanger has less blade feel and is more comfortable. The Lupo 95 OC has more blade feel and may be a touch more efficient overall, but very close. Both require extra effort for me to get the back fringe acceptably smooth, but that is true of most razors. If you were curious to try a Lupo, the 127 is probably a better bet.

Of the razors you mentioned, nothing beats the efficiency of Stirling's razor. For myself, I have found my sweet spot in the Wolfman Guerilla .99 in stainless.

Pardon the delay amigo. Duty calls with family & work and I just finally have some time to sit down to put some thoughts down. To reiterate what ewk posted above, he makes a very valid point with the Lupo side of the story. Unfortunately, I can’t say an iota concerning the GC 1.05 as I don’t own one. I love both the Lupo .95 SB/OC variants and lean towards the SB version as it offers me a slightly smoother and comfortable shave in that as a daily, it works better for me over the OC variant. The 1.27 takes the Lupo into highly efficient territory but, with the .95 shave characteristics of still offering comfort and smooth operation. This newer gap puts the Lupo right there in the middle of the Charcoal Goods level 2 & 3 and just a tick under if not equal to the Stirling ST razor. The 1.27 is just as good as the R41 but, it has a more stable feel as the blade is better supported & clamped giving more feedback on exactly what is going on between steel & skin. I shaved yesterday at about 7:30-8pm and it is now 1:45pm eastern time and I just felt the first couple of spots with light stubble about an hour ago. Let’s just put it at about 16 hours of smooth skin without a trace of a single whisker. That’s up there with some of the best of the efficient hierarchy in my shave experience with the likes of the R41 pre 2013, .95 OC Timeless Ti, Rex Ambassador, Asylum Rx 1st release, Blackbird, Dart, Taiga, Sailor & the legendary Ikon Tech. That’s real good company for a razor that’s well under the century mark in price.

In all honesty, there isn’t a bad gap size in the whole Lupo line up. But, if you want the one that can potentially get you done in perhaps one & definitely two shave passes, the .127 is the one to go with in this series of Lupo razors. As a bonus, you don’t need to be a Shaolin shave master a la Pai Mei (Kill Bill reference) to get an excellent result.

Awesome.  Thanks for the feedback gents.  Sounds like the 127 is definitely making the list, possibly the 95 as well.  I'm probably going to do a software restraint for 2024, I I'll have a bit of extra budget to tackle some hardware I've been curious about.  I'm actually thinking about sidelining quite a few of the razors in my regular rotation for 2024 as well and limiting myself to an even dozen.  I'm actually leaving the Z0 and the R41 out of the rotation next year to see how much I miss them.  I just seem to reach for the ST more when I want that level of efficiency.  The ones that made the cut for 2024 are:

  • Haircut and Shave Co. Ti 1.30
  • Rex Ambassador
  • Merkur Progress
  • GC 1.05
  • Stirling ST
  • Gillette Slim
  • Gillette Fatboy
  • Above the Tie H1
  • Blackland Blackbird SS
  • EverReady 1924
  • PAL Adjustable
  • GEM Micromatic Open Comb (Bumpless)

We'll have to see if one of the Lupos or anything new makes the cut this year.
