Anyway, it is a nice design and would be very easy to fix at the factory. The rear area of the handle/bottom plate should probably be milled flat after it comes out of the cast to give a precision fit anyway. The metal is a very soft zinc alloy casting so it machines easily. I know that is an extra manufacturing step but really, how much could it cost? Also, just drill the bore that the magnet fits into a little deeper so that it is flush or slightly counter sunk. That wouldn't cost anything .

Do that and I think it would be a pretty good product for 20 bucks.

Good news: the surgery seemed to have worked! No blade slippage or excessive tightening of the handle knob needed and it gave a better than decent shave. The range of available angles is still small and you have to really ride the cap to get it to shave. This appears to be a consequence of the very limited blade exposure. If you have a tough beard like I do, you will have to use a little more pressure than you would with a SE razor with a Feather blade and definitely more than with a SR. Nevertheless, I think it would be almost impossible to cut or nick yourself with this razor. Aftershave did not sting, so the shave (two full passes with a clean up pass) did not over exfoliate and was reasonably close. Probably a DFS but not BBS. You would have to use a lot of pressure, or maybe a very sharp blade to get BBS with this razor. I only had a 36 hour beard so the beard was light (for me).

BTW, filing down the top of the integrated handle and base plate by 1-2mm is a less than a two minute job. The Zinc alloy is very soft and files down quickly.

I have a SoloEdge on the way I look forward to trying. And if someone wants a cheap half DE the Yaqi head was fairly good. I think I spent $5-6 for it on sale. Only one shave with it but it was better then a lot of razors I’ve tried and well worth the price. It’s more on the medium-aggressive side and I think the gap was around 1.05.

The Yaqi 1/2 DE head is quite dangerous IME- It is an unsupported untorqued blade jutting straight out with alignment issues. However, it is a fantastic holder of injector blades. The unsupportedness of the blade is less of an issue with thicker injector blades. The remaining issue is that it is not engineered for these blades, so alignment is ad hoc. You can use a blade box to gently align it though.

It is worth a try if you have the gear or have a fair amount of injector blades and would like to try a heavier handle.

Further update: today's shave used all the same gear (see SOTD) to keep variables to a minimum.  I am pleased to report that the modded razor does just fine "riding the cap" at a shallow angle  This minimized blade chatter and juddering .  To that extent it works like an injector.  Blade feel is still very minimal so you have to rely on sound to tell you that you are at a cutting angle.  The shave wasn't perfect but was quite good for 2.5 passes. No weepers.  I think that I am homing in on how to modulate pressure with this razor.  At this point, I am quite impressed with the shave you can get for less than $20.00 IF you are willing to modify the razor.
