4711 was issued to german unterseeboot crews in both wars to stave off the stench of unwashed men, deisal. ballistol universal lubricant and bilgewater on patrols. I was introduced to it, again in SF by a former Kreigsmariner who wound up my legal council over a bogus courtmartial hearing. He said most saved it for thier sweethearts or family
and those that didn't grew sick of the smell for life. But he loved it and said it's permissable for both sexes.
The gay community of the 70s was very vibrant. My only issue was first they adopted moustaches and then leather bomber jackets became de riquer. I'm getting my hair cut there at a wonderfull barber's with a clipped military stash and my flight jacket from Alaska and this leather dude hits on and follows me from SF back to Alameda; where, in disgust I threw him off the wooden bridge to Government Island into the water. That was a life lesson in sexual harrassment and not to. I found a marvelous black barber in Oakland, ex Navy with Sinatra, lady B and Bennet on the radio. All the Panthers went there and I was quickly accepted without any fear of harrassment. He gave me a shave and removed the moutache and I traded the jacket for a spare peacoat. That 'gay' cologne was some intense musk approaching Bois du Portugal in intensity. Kav doesn't do Musk to this day.

Just got back from Mexico. And grabbed a puck of soap from artisans in Oaxaca! They "claim" the natural honey and concha naca helps with irritation and acne. We shall see. Smells like horchata and vanilla. Lol. I should take pics when I bust this out. Lots of variety and smell. I was too afraid to pick the Aztec "god" one. Half naked Indian with a parrot in his hand and all....

I do the same thing whenever I travel outside of my area. when I was in Colorado last year, I think I came home with like 15-20 bars of bath soap from various different artisans, no lie..
