From everything that I have read here and elsewhere, I am beginning to suspect that there are a few shills out there. I am just happy that this debacle only cost me about $10. Lesson learned.

I don't think anybody is shilling here, but I do see a few here defending it because it is their favorite razor. I don't see anything wrong with that.

I'm not sure how many people out there treat shaving as a hobby, and could give a hoot about technique, blade gaps, angles, etc. etc. For them it's a chore to be gotten over and completed. I can see this razor as an affordable way to get the single-blade wet shaving experience without much fuss. And perhaps that will pique their curiosity and they'll become involved in the hobby we all enjoy so much.

Here are some more detailed thoughts on why I keep talking about migrating cartridge users.

First, There are many cartridge shavers that get significant irritation from cartridges. They deserve better.

Next, there are many who want to pay less to shave - look at how the Dollar Shave Club took off. If everything falls into place, the Core will fill a need for both of these segments of the shaving market.

As Michael P noted, these users won't be coming to classic shaving for a hobby. Having said that, there will be folks who will move over to shaving soap/cream and a brush when they make the move. There would also be folks who want to try more that move into this as a hobby.

Of course, I don't know how many cartridge users would come over. What I do know is that we all benefit if classic shaving grows because it provides profit incentive for product improvements and innovation.

For example, it used to be that most people couldn't acquire really good coffee. I remember having a great cup at a restaurant, which began my pursuit of a really good cup. Starbuck's started a coffee craze. I now roast my own coffee and drink superb coffee. I doubt the beans I roast existed before good coffee became popular - there has been time and money for improved coffee bean breeding.

A lot would have to fall into place for the Core to achieve the things I'm talking about. Great leadership by the OneBlade folks would certainly help, though, they don't seem to be learning from past mistakes.

The CEO of OneBlade sat down for an interview with me early last week. I'm just putting the final touches on the video (my most complicated editing effort--I used 3 cameras, just like the networks Big Grin ) and it should be on Youtube and Sharpologist Monday. It may help provide some insight "straight from the horse's mouth." Smile

I look forward to hearing what he has to say. As well, based on what I've seen in the past from the OneBlade folks, the words gain credibility as the actions support the words.

I'm going to give my Core a few runs before I condemn it...let's be fair.

I understand those who received defect, but I did not...

More later.

I'm not sure what to make of Mark's relationship with OneBlade. I understand he runs a website and needs to make some money, but can't help but feel it may color his views on the razors. I've seen him post OneBlade updates on essentially every forum and now here he is on video wearing a OneBlade shirt lol.

You could just ask. Big Grin

They gave me the shirt at the Big Shave West in Pasadena (April). I thought it would be appropriate for the video (shrug).

They were a regular advertiser last year but that agreement has since lapsed. I still have an "affiliate" relationship with them, in that I get a small advertising fee on a sale if the referral comes from special URL. I make no secret about that--if you look at a sample link in an article there's a notation that it's an affiliate link. I also have a "Disclosures" page that's linked in the footer of every page on the site.

That aside, I promote products I believe in. And my experience with OneBlade had been positive. Plus, they're just a day trip away. As there has been a lot of "buzz" in the community about it I thought some extra content might be useful to those interested (and, yes, more video views and pageviews help with things like Search Engine Optimization--SEO--and other web metrics that attract new readers).

Go ahead, AM(A)A.... Cool
