I just took delivery of my third Thater brush.  As you can see it is a 26mm two band Beehive.  These brushes are quality and performance with Wiborg and Shavemac.  It is an outstanding brush.

What is the loft on that Beehive? It looks a bit lower than the other two Thaters you have there, which is exactly what I would prefer. Backbone pretty good?

It is. According to specs from Thater the black and white brushes have a 55mm loft while the black has an overall hight of 100mm and the white has an overall hight of 105mm. The beehive has a knot loft of 52mm with an overall hight of 102mm. I have not used the the beehive yet so I will post the performance probably tomorrow. These brushes have an excellent performance.

I used my brush today for the first time. It performs as well as my two other Thaters. All of my brushes are 2 band, silvertip fan shaped. A 2 band brush generally has a stiffer backbone than a three band. The Thaters are just like my Wiborg’s. Tips as soft as cotton with a decent backbone. However, the difference in the loft height on my Thaters is minuscule so there is not much difference. I also own several Shavemac brushes. Bernd is the only quality brush maker who sells off the shelf brushes he has created or, you can design your own. Not only can you choose handle shape and color but one of the few places where you can choose two different silvertip knots, knot size as well as knot loft size. His D01 silvertip is very stiff and this is where a higher loft makes a difference. I had him make a regular silvertip that was 26mm X 60mm (loft). I could paint a house with that brush but it is excellent with certain soaps and creams. It appears to me that Thater matches the perfect knot loft with the knot thickness. If you have considered buying one you won’t go wrong.
